But he's crying cos he's hungry
Don't know what to do for best?
His eyes are rolling & he's been sick 4 times in 2 1/2hrs
2 years ago he was hospitalized with dehydration & hyperglycemia (low blood sugar) after a sickness bug
They said if he's sick like it again to take him to hospital cos of low blood sugar ... But I don't wanna be the mum that goes to a&e with a sickness bug!
Any advice please?

"They said if he's sick like it again to take him to hospital cos of low blood sugar "

so you'd be perfectly justified in going IMO :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 27/06/2012 17:56

apart from that I would try to give him small sips of fluid regularly :)

devonsmummy · 27/06/2012 18:02

Trying to get him to take small sips is proving hard work. He's crying that he's thirsty & hungry .
Just had 2 tiny tiny sips & he's now chucking up again Sad
Dh will be home within the hour so think I'll see how he goes til then they perhaps call out of hours

Have you any ice cubes or ice lollies in the freezer he can suck on slowly?

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 27/06/2012 18:06

call out of hours now so you know what you are doing when dh gets home. poor ds that is an awfull lot of sickness for someone so little, I would definatly get some advice sooner rather than later.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 27/06/2012 18:07

Water or fluid on a teaspoon only. 1 tsp every 20 minutes until he can tolerate it or you take him in, a sip can be too much fluid for a sick tummy to handle. My DS used to have to go into A&E with every tummy bug so I know how you feel.

Waiting for call back from Docs

My DD has low blood sugars with sickness bugs. We always keep a stock of Diarolyte - one teaspoon every 5 - 10 mins. We've been in hospital numerous times with it, but have avoided admission since we were given the diarolyte advice by one of the Paeds.

Good luck :)

devonsmummy · 27/06/2012 19:32

They'll see him up to 11pm if I'm worried or Docs in morning . Gonna ride it out & try & get him to sleep
Thanks all

Its so worrying when their little bodies can't or don't cope... I am as cool as a cucumber with 2 of my DDs, but as soon as DD2 starts vomiting I am on worry overdrive!

devonsmummy · 27/06/2012 19:58

Now it's started the other end too Sad

Surely it's unusual for a child to feel hungry with such a poorly stomach?! I would be worried at that myself!

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 27/06/2012 20:07

my dd says she is hungry when she has vomitted lots, I think it is their explination of that tottaly empty stmoach and weakness feeling, but obviously they dont quite understand not to eat.

If he now has diarreah but he has not eaten or drank anything I would take him to be seen as that is quite a worry.

devonsmummy · 27/06/2012 20:50

Angry 'd'h went out an hour ago to get some juice as all ours is sugarfree.
Text to say there isn't any then called to day just been to get dinner!
His mate had come over to go cinema & they both went to get juice leaving DD 2urs downstairs and not told me!

Has it been warm where you are today? Sounds like it could be heatstroke.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 27/06/2012 21:02

good job there was not an emergancy, could he not walk up the stairs and have a converstaion with you. no wonder you are angry. what an arse.

devonsmummy · 27/06/2012 21:15

Yes it's been warm here today.
I asked the teacher after he'd been sick if he'd told anyone he felt unwell. She said they'd just been outside doing dancing before hometime & when they came in he said he felt unwell.
When we got home I asked if he'd worn his sun hat & he said no - so could be a touch of heatstroke
He's just gone to sleep ( after chucking up again!) so I'm hoping that'll be it now

Am fuming that 'd'h thought feeding his & his mates bellies was more important than helping out & getting DS some juiceAngry
He said I knew what ever I did would be wrong !

Best to give a rehydration drink such as dioralyte (if there is a large Tesco or other supermarket or late night pharmacy near you they are likely to stock it, so worth sending your DH to get it). The difference with other drinks, including water, is that your dc is much less likely to throw it up. Following instructions on the pack and make up the exact right strength dilution.
If it does not tell you how much to give, then give only 10ml every 20 minutes (if you have one you can use babybottle to precisely measure how much to give him every 20 minutes, give it in small sips, not all at once). He should be able to keep this in or at least to keep most in. If you keep giving this as the only drink you should be able to prevent him from getting dehydrated. If he can't keep it in, I would go to OOH.

He was fine , stopped being sick at 10.30pm and is having a lazy day at home to recoup xx
