6mo problems with her lady bits

When my baby girl was a couple of months old we noticed a small red lump the size of a pea on her labia.

HV suggested it was prob another strawberry birth mark (as she has these elsewhere) but saw gp just in case. He disagreed but couldn't identify it, so told us to go back in 3 months.

Weve been back today and still no ideas, but he also mentioned she has an imperforate hymen. He's referred us to gynaecologist, but said it may take 3 or 4 months! That's a long time for a worried mummy! Anyone any experience of either of these problems who can offer some more insight?

Thank you

well an imperforate hymen is a hymen that is totally closed with no apeture as it were...most hymens are not covering the vaginal opening completely...this an be fixxed easily though with a very minor operation...they just make a small apeture int he hymen so that when she's old enough for periods, the flow has somehwere to go.

That's very basic but is what the main problem seems to be with your DD...I know the lump is worrying you but if the gp was not shoving you into hospital for biopsy then you should try to not worry.

There are SO many reasons to get little bumps and lumps and GPs are well trained to spot any that are bothersome.

If you are still really worried and don't want to wait so long, you could try to see a gynae privately....one visit might not cost so much...otherwise, maybe ask the surgery to see a deifferent GP and get a 2nd opinion. But remember that this area is prone to getting little bumps and spots and blocked pores and glands as it is in an area where not much air reaches.

Also I would try to let her go nappy-less when you can....just in case it is a blocked pore or similar and that way, it may get the chance to go on it's own. Does it cause her any discomfort? I would be tempted to try a warm compress on it...to see if it helps.

DD had this. It is also called Labial Agglutination (google it for further info). She had it fixed quite easily at 2.5yrs with a day op. It was all a big adventure for her. Hardest part was stopping her eating in the morning before the procedure.

As for the small red lump, not sure.
I second trying not to worry too much about it. I'm sure it'll be nothing to worry about.

I hope you get your appointment soon.
