All three of my kids (8, 6 and 4) were proper poorly over Easter with a virus. High temps, runny bums, nausea, sore joints. Then, unable to weight bear for a week because of swollen knees and hip pains. The whole school was shut, there was this weird joint virus and a D+V one at the same time.

Nice to share.

Anyhoo, here we are in June, and my older 2 are still Not Right. They've missed week long blocks of school, been admitted with asthma episodes and are just lethargic.

Both school kids missed last week because of swollen glands, sore throats, low grade fevers and general malaise.

Today, DS (6) woudn't participate in his friend's birthday party because he didn't feel well. Wouldn't even eat cake...so, now, I'm worried!

This is still a normal time frame, right?

Usually, these are hyper kids. Nice, but, bouncy - wouldn't keep them indoors for a whole day, you know the type!
TIA

I would have them checked out by a GP just in case.
Now until recently I have always been quite relaxed etc. until I didn't realise just how poorly my youngest son was with a chest infection :( (he complained of heart pain...no cough no cold.....) and he ended up in hospital on oxygen. Totally didn't expect him to be THAT poorly...to be honest I thought he was putting on a bit of a show (you know, trying to get out of school)

A really bad illness can knock out the immune system for a while allowing all the bugs to get in. Could they have caught a few more minor bugs? This year seems the worst yet for persistant illness, I think the weather is not helping.

It's a long time to still be under the weather, but it sounds like a nasty virus.
I'd be reassured by the fact that they're all ill- if this was one child I'd be more concerned.
Have you considered a vitamin supplement? I'd get the GP to check their iron levels.

I would certainly get them checked by your GP. Some viruses can really wipe children. I think a blood test should be done at this stage to rule out glandular fever being the cause.

Thanks guys, I am starting to think that I am a bit neurotic. Buit, they are just not quite right - so that's very reassuring to hear "GP" being suggested.

I shall say that MN sent me.
