DD2's toes are peeling. The skin under them has come awat and its very red underneath. She's not had new shoes recently but they still fit fine (had her checked recently). Anything to worry about? ahe's not saying it hurts. She is 2 1/2.

It could be scarlet fever, worth taking her to the GP in case she needs antibitoics. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_fever, I remember having this when I was 6, it didn't hurt.

Agree it's probably Tinea Pedis (athletes foot), it's surprisingly common in little ones. Check other family members as it often gets spread around unwittingly. There are mixed thoughts about the use of lamasil cream (very effective) in children under 12 so I wouldn't use it but you could use 1% canasten cream twice daily for a week and review.

Scarlett fever is caused by strep A and one of the signs of that can be peeling hands and feet. DD#3 had it very dramatically last year after strep A septicaemia. Have a look at her hands too and see if they are doing similar? They don't necc all peel at exactly the same time. Has she been unwell recently - even just a sore throat?

lifeisfuckinggreat · 17/06/2012 07:28

Tine pedis is common, represents like this and isn't always itchy.

Unless DD has actually been unwell recently with fever I would not worry about scarlet fever. Fungal foot infection seems most likely. Doubt chemist will sell anything over the counter at that young age so gp has to be seen.

When I was little, the skin peeled off both mine and my sister's feet. I can remember my mum rubbing horrible, yellow, smellycream she got from the GP into our feet and then putting freezer bags and socks on them, to help the cream soak in! It turned out we were allergic to the nylon in the ancient carpets that had been in the house since the year dot.
