Rhus Tox for Chicken Pox?

DS has Chicken pox one week before my Section date for DC2!

Has anybody used this with success to combat chicken pox? The pharmacist gave me some at 6c potency but was very vague about the dosage? I called a homeopath who then said I shouldn't use it because it will suppress the pox and it is better for the child if all the spots are allowed out?

DS isn't unwell in himself (no temp) but just quite spotty and itchy, poor mite.

Have been given piriton by the nurse and have been using virasoothe and aqueous calamine cream so far

My doctor prescribes it for chicken pox. Apparently if you start it quickly it stops the spots from coming out.

Dd1 had rhus tox and had about 50 spots, dd2 caught the pox from her, but was too young for rhus tox and had over 500!

I know others who have had it for the second child in the family who got chicken pox and have said they were much less spotty.

Can you remember what dosage you gave.? Was it one AM and one PM? Thanks

I can't remember the dosage for certain (it was 8 years ago now!) but it was something like that. Certain it wasn't more.

my DD was just yesterday diagnosed with shingles which is the same virul family as chicken pox. apparently her dose of chicken pox was mild but didn't go away completely and just lay dormant for 2 years ( but can stay there forever).
it is a nasty illness as it is not only itchy but sore. i would recommend caution when dealing with chicken pox i never thought i'd be in this position today. all i used at the time on the pox was calomile and an anti itching cream given by the doc.

I am not scaremongering at all but just advising caution.

Just out of interest why do you want to stop chicken pox spots coming out?

eastendywendy · 15/06/2012 12:54

Wouldnt you be better letting him get over it naturally so he then has immunity? Surely the spots coming out are how the body rids itself of the virus?

MoaningMajestyReignsAgain · 15/06/2012 12:57

Its a homeopathic 'remedy' wendy so if sugar pills will help fight a viral infection, Hmm

My second child to go down with Chicken Pox was much spottier, both recovered very quickly though. It must be a worry so close to the baby being born though, it's a whole different kettle of fish for newborns.

Sneezecakesmama · 15/06/2012 13:20

Newborns generally have resistance from mum especially if bf. it's infectious 4 days before th spots come out anyway. Is mum not immune and this is the concern?

Piemistress · 15/06/2012 13:36

No, I have had it before thankfully!

The homeopathic remedy had been recommended and I wanted to check the dosage. DS has about 100 spots and so far the rhus Tox seems to not so much prevent the spots but cause him less bother with them in that he is not as itchy.
