Eye colour - different in each eye, will they ever be the same?

I have just noticed that my DD (8mo) has one mostly brown eye and one mostly grey eye. They have only recently changed from a darker grey blue. Will they continue to change so that they are both brown? or will they stay this way?

I know that children's eyes continue to change colour for years but I am really wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and the eyes ended up the same despite being different for a while.

My sister has two different coloured eyes and she's 28, so they may not change. She loves having two different colours.

She would be in good company; David Bowie has different coloured eyes.

I had two blue eyes, and then an incident with a sandy tennis ball, cricket bat and older brother changed one to green when I was about 7. I love having different coloured eyes

Thanks for the replies. I am sure she will love having different coloured eyes if they stay that way, just made me wonder about the whole process and whether both eyes necessarily change colour at the same time.

I knew a girl at school whose eye colour in one eye was changed when she got some egg in it. We also had a cat with one green eye and one blue eye!

Egg changes your eye colour!? How weird.

And the sandy tennis ball and bat . . . did that damage the eyesight?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 15/06/2012 21:17

Some medication can change eye colour as well. I bet your dd will love being unusual.

PooPooInMyToes · 15/06/2012 21:25

What sort of medication? That's so weird!

I'm not actually sure the optician told me, but you know the liquid lash lengthner you can buy? The pricey one they sell in Salons, that can turn your eyes brown if they are a different colour.

DD had different colour eyes until a few weeks ago and they're now both brown-one was dark blue before. She's 9MO. I'm a little bit disappointed they match now, I loved them being different!

I think David Bowie was stabbed by a compass (sp?) in school and that's what changed his eye colour...?

My friend has 2 different colours and also loves it, and I know a lady with 2 different colours. I think it's nice to be different (in ways that do not cause problems.......!Hmm)

bigbuttons · 15/06/2012 21:44

No, david Bowie always had different eye colour. The pencil he was stabbed with fixed the size of one pupil

narmada · 15/06/2012 21:59

My dad has one green and one brown eye, but I don't think he had any eye injury.

bramblina · 15/06/2012 22:02

Shock oh @ bigbuttons gosh he's had a bit of a run-in with his eyes!!!

PooPooInMyToes · 15/06/2012 22:26

From what I've read he doesn't have different coloured eyes at all, its just that the enlarged pupil makes it seem darker.

mangomadness · 16/06/2012 04:02

No probs with eyesight, had to wear a patch for a few weeks (I remember this vividly as primary school put on mufti day so I went as a pirate.)
However that eye is now slightly smaller than my other, only noticeable when I'm extremely tired.
It wasn't malicious, I thought they'd finished playing cricket, was busy collecting shells about 10m away, brother slogged the ball....trip to a&e and a patch!

PoppyWearer · 16/06/2012 06:22

My DH has slightly different-coloured eyes and it hasn't been an issue for him.

Baby DS is 10mo and looks like he will have eyes similar in colour to DH, but too early to say if they'll be different colours.

RubberBandit · 16/06/2012 06:32

David Bowie doesn't have different coloured eyes. Both his irises are blue. The injury caused damage to the muscles which control the pupil causing the pupil to permanently dilate which makes it look like he has one dark eye and one blue eye

I have the same thing (different cause though) but my eyes are dark so less noticeable but occasionally someone will comment on my different coloured eyes - which they're aren't. It's just that there's less visible iris because of the enlarged pupil.
