Hi all. My six month old has a scarred kidney and it is smaller than the other following two UTIs when he was young. Just found out today over the phone. I was wondering if anyone had been through this and what happened? Thanks.

Not experience of that exactly, but my friend's baby only has one kidney from birth and has been advised by consultants not to worry as the body can manage very well with just half of one kidney! So having two is insurance really for problems, such as your baby had, possibly threatening an organ in severe cases. I expect in your case the scarred kidney will still provide some function although reduced, if the other is fully healthy it should be nothing to worry about. HTH :)

We've been through exactly the same with my now 2 year old boy. 3 uti's at 7 months due to kidney reflux has left one kidney scarred with 25% working and it's much smaller than the other one. He has been on a daily dosage of trimethoprim since to avoid any more. Is your little bog on antibiotics bow? If not, may be worth a referral to paeds as this seems to be the norm for bots with kidney scarring due to repeated uti. Hope that helps
