My gorgeous girl was badly burned last year. She was lucky to survive and spent two months in intensive care.
since then she has blossomed into a strong, brave lovely little girl.
Tomorrow she's in to have her hand redrafted as she can't bend it at the knuckle and her little finger straightened: it sticks out at a right angle. She will also have a large itchy scar (about the size of my flat hand) layered off and then sprayed with 'spray on skin'. It's the next of many trips to theatre and there will be many more. I have been waiting and pushing for this op for a while but now it's imminent I'm dreading it :(

Hope you're both doing ok. Still sending good thoughts.

My dd burnt her hand on an iron when she was 2 and had a graft from her inner thigh to her hand. The op was on boxing day and have a photo of her in a tinkerbell outfit by the Xmas tree, with both her leg and arm heavily bandaged.
Dd is 14 now but I dont remember her being in much pain after the op, she came home that evening.
Hope everything goes well for your dd.

BulletProofMum did they manage to free a bed for your DD?

Hope the op goes well

Hope the op goes well and they manage to keep her relatively pain free, poor little thing. Good luck!

Update. We're back home, came home Friday. She has an unbelievably large bandage around her hand. A boxing glove is an understatement. She was in theatre for 4 hours, can't see under the bandage butntheybseem quite happy with themselves! Difficult to see yet if her laser/recell treatment has had much of an effect but she is scratching it less.

She was in quite a lot of pain for the first few days, but now barely notices her hand. If I ask her about her poorly hand then she picks up the good one and says ' yes, poorly hand hurts'.

Back up on tue for another trip to theatre on we'd for a dressing change. She'll have the pins taken out her fingers the following week.

My poor baby.

Poor little treasure :(
I was thinking about you when they were showing the little girl that's had skin grafts in South Africa after suffering 80% burns After being burnt at a BBQ

Hope she continues to suffer as little as possible xx

BulletProofMum · 17/06/2012 21:58

I missed that QOD.

i have recorded the program that was on on Thursday night about a girl (now teenager) who survived 90%. She is treated in the same unit as my daughter.

Being is hospital has crewed her sleep patterns. She's still charging around the playroom like a demented thing.

Poor poor baby. You both sound brave to me. Sending healing thoughts!

Wolfiefan · 17/06/2012 22:01

X post. Your last comment about sleep made me smile. So despite it all she is perfectly normal and happy!

BulletProofMum · 17/06/2012 22:24

ThanksbQOD - many parts of that story are very familiar to me.
