Children's Dentist Reviews?

Hey everyone,

Firstly, I'm not a Mum or a Mum to be, just an Uncle!

My niece has her First Holy Communion on Saturday, my sister in law has just called us in quite a state because my niece has cracked her front tooth and taken knocked a portion of it out.

It would appear they've not maintained regular dental treatment for quite some time (don't get me started on this, I had no idea), so they're looking to find a dentist pronto.

Are there any sites which rate dentists or give reviews of dental treatment specific to children? I remember going to quite a few dentists as a child (I'm 29) and there being a vast difference in the treatment I received. Or, is this the kind of message board where people would discuss and comment on local services like this?

Any input/suggestions/help greatly appreciated (except the obvious of 'she should have been taken every 6 months at least' - I couldn't agree more but what's done is done :/)

Thanks for reading!

All dentists will be experienced in treating children. Best to get word of mouth recommendation, maybe local GP practice would have list of dentists or Google and ask dental practice direct

We told her to phone he mates who are parents and see what they said but I just thought I'd see what I could find in the meantime...

I guess I just thought there's review sites for almost anything you can think of these days, I wondered if there was the equivalent of TripAdvisor for dentists!

There may be, I've never seen one

And apologies for my unintentional 'word of mouth' pun

RobR · 11/06/2012 20:09

I'd not even spotted that/saw it as a pun to be honest!

hi RobR u need to get her to any dentist ASAP. the prognosis of the tooth depends on the time it takes to get the treatment instituted.
if the fracture is involving the pulp ( the portion of tooth containing the nerve and blood supply of tooth) bacteria from her mouth can seep in causing infection. this may not be apparent to naked eye so prompt treatment is of the essense

they need to call nhs direct for duty emergency dentisit to get tooth fixed before looking for a dentist. I would imagine it will be difficult to get her into a dentist if they themslefs are not registared. Had same problem when dd was a baby I had find a dentist to registar me before I could registar dd.

I know an absoloutely fantastic dentist which is just for children but it is private and in west London.
If that is any good I can give you the details.

RobR · 11/06/2012 20:39

My Mum seems to think it was actually a chip off the bottom as opposed a vertical fracture, she's phoning to check again.

@Pagwatch, we're out in Essex so roughly the opposite side of London, the recommendation is much appreciated but I think finding someone more local which we can ensure she goes to every 6 months at least would be more ideal.

I've expressed the urgency you've mentioned Vanfurgstan, hopefully she'll take on your suggestion.

She visited a dentist this morning -one my sister in law used to be registered at, she's had a filling on the bottom of the front tooth so all is fixed, for now at least... !

Communion photos with smiles now :)
