DD age 3 just bitten through her tongue

Help please! DD was standing on her step in the bathroom to brush her teeth & slipped bumped her chin and has bitten right through the side of her tongue. Cut top and bottom (a bit almost hanging off but not) its just under a cm long has stopped bleeding.

I can't get through to docs.

Should I take her to docs, do tongues heal themselves?

Any advice appreciated!

Gosh, sounds nasty.
I would probably go to A&E jst to be on the safe side. I dont imagine they will be able to do much in the way of repair.
Hope your dd not too upset.

Tongues and mouths heal faster than any other part of the body. I think it would be wise to get some advice, either by speaking to or seeing a gp when you can get through.

As it has stopped bleeding I don't think it warrents an A&E visit.

I hope she feels better soon Smile

Thanks docs too busy to see her & have advised to go to a&e so on our way there.

Forgot a change of clothes for her so hope there's no pee pee incidents! She's being very brave.

DS done this when he was learning to walk because when he concentrated he stuck his tongue out and tripped!

We took him to A&E but by the time we got seen it had started to heal itself and there was nothing they could do. He now has a tiny little scar on his tongue 10 years later! Grin

DS had done something similar a few months back, he bit the side of his tongue when they ran into each other with another child at school, bits were literally hanging off on the side of his tongue (about a 1.5 cm stretch ) Sad. Took him to see a doctor the following morning because it looked awful and he could barely speak let alone eat or drink, but were told it would heal on its own.... and it did without any problem!

A&e docs said the same, they very rarely do anything to tongue cuts as they heal quickly. He said the only cuts they usually treat are cuts that end in a forked tongue (yikes!). So DD home having an ice lolly and back to her normal self having enjoyed people watching at A&E for the last couple of hours. Doctor was lovely & even though I felt like I'd wasted their time, he was very nice.

Next time I'll know.

Thanks for all the advice Smile
