Hi
advice please. My DD (19months old) has had a temp ranging from 37.5 to 39 since Friday afternoon. DH has had a virus so put it down to that. It only hit 39 twice yesterday but I am finding myself checking it a lot as it is up and down. She has had calpol but not all the time as she doesnt always have a temp. No obvious symptons. She plays happily but has been irritable. I'm convinced she is teething but advice is no temp with teething. Last night she kept waking up and cryimg like she was in pain but would go back off after a few mins. She is sitting here watching Peppa Pig and laughing which tells me there is nothing too urgent going on but dont know if I should be getting this temp checked?
Any thoughts please.

(Disclaimer: I am a mum. not a doctor.)

Phone NHS direct for advice.

Might be worth trying to keep the calpol and temperature taking to a routine rather than as and when, may make more sense then. NICE guidelines currently are
"1.6.1.3 The use of antipyretic agents should be considered in children with fever who appear distressed or unwell. Antipyretic agents should not routinely be used with the sole aim of reducing body temperature in children with fever who are otherwise well. " but this is targeted at healthcare professionals.

Dd 20m is exactly the same. I also have ds 5 so I'm used to temps but I've never known a high temp with no other symptoms. I took her to OOH yday as she has a history of utis - they felt her tummy but can't check samples on weekends apparently??

My DD had this a couple of weeks ago and now this morning it looks like my DS has also got it - just a temperature, no other symptoms. Of course a temperature itself can make you feel very unwell, cause headaches etc so I found that while the medicine was acting she was right as rain and then as it wore off she looked unwell again. It only lasted two days and she slept a lot. Fingers crossed theyll all be better soon!

Hi all
Thanks for the advice. Have come to the conclusion that it is a virus which must have been picked up while low immunity and teething. She is gnawing, dribbling and putting her fingers in her gums where the gaps are, Temp been down since Sunday morning and seems happier. Now I feel rough!! Oh the joys eh?

Ds 2.2 had this a few weeks ago for two weeks. It was hell. I got no sleep because he would wake up every 20 mins screaming. Then I got I'll with the most horrendous sore throat and earache. It's a particularly nasty virus that going round.

Hello all I am new to this site. Wish to thank you posters for not rushing to the Practice Nurse with these virus symptoms. I know they are hard to deal with and worrying! I am a PN and I am just suffering my 3rd horrible cold and sore throat in 6 months. Not sure anymore if I'm in the right job x
