is it worth seeing a GP or is there anything I should be doing?

atm i am washing it out with breastmilk when I can, although when i try he is normally attempting to pull the nipple back down to his mouth Grin Is there a minimum frequency of washing I should be going for?

Started friday and now is quite red/pink, still gunky and he can't open his eye fully.

Does your ds go to nursery or cm? If so I think you might need to see yor gp for antibiotic drops. It's really contagious so he'll need to stay away from other children for 48 hrs after starting abs. I'm not sure if you can get anything over the counter from the pharmacy.

If he's not in childcare and he's not too bothered by it, you could carry on with the bm and ride it out.

My ds had it several times when he first went to nursery, it's a bit of a pita but not as bad as the d&v bugs he picked up :o

thanks, no nursery just numerous playgroups in the week

think I am happy to continue and hope enough preventative action stops the toddler from getting it as well.

If it was me I'd see how he is in the morning and if there's no improvement ring the gp.

Hope you don't have a rough night :)

Continue with using breastmilk. Either squirt in eye, or express and put cotton wool pads in the milk and wipe eye. Use a separate pad for each eye.

Clean eyes with cooled boiled water too. Just a couple of times a day. Again, separate pad for each eye.

Use different towels and wash hands before and after putting milk in eyes.

The drops you can buy over the counter but they're for 2 years old plus unless GP prescribes them (or you lie Wink) Because my dp told pharmacy how old dd was we went to docs in the end as it looked bad and temp was high. Drops didn't make a scrap of difference and breast milk seemed to have more affect in soothing her eye and keeping it less sticky for longer.

Temp - calpol to bring it down but definitely still go to doctors tomorrow, jst to be on the safe side. if his temp gets worse tonight, call OOH or NHS direct to be sure he's ok.

For reassurance, we had exactly the same at about the same age and she cut 2 teeth the next day and did the same when 6 months old an cut her first tooth. My dd always seems to get sticky eyes or conjunctivitis as shes cutting teeth as well as a high temp. The gp couldn't find any other source of infection for high temp so we've always put it down to teeth.

Thank god for breastmilk ay Wink (well done for nursing to 8 months too)

Hope DS feels better soon Smile
