Dd has been poorly since April. She has had 6 lots of antibiotics, iv antibiotics, iv antivirals as well as her usual medication. She has currently just come back out of hospital with no antibiotics this time as no bacterial infection found. Her temp has come down again but she is just so unhappy. She keeps getting spots, she is bruising really easy, mottling skin. She is just crying and screaming, waking up crying. Today she has said her back is hurting, her bum is. hurtinh, her knees are hurting. She has been like this since April now and I am just feeling really down heartened, just want my happy little girl back

Awwww poor lamb. Hope she gets well soon. What has been wrong to need all those iv drugs?

mummytopebs · 08/06/2012 22:34

She has had 1 lot if ivs and 5 lots oral. She has had 2 utis, whooping cough. and mild pneumonia. Iv antivirals were for the herpes virus. It seems as soon as she is not on antibiotics she is upset and dooming tempreatures. It's just awful to see x

It's horrible seeing them ill and so draining, Ds has been ill for the last 6 weeks with numerous a and e trips and 3 admissions. I think the worst thing is feeling so helpless.

I assume they have done tests to try to find out about the bruising etc?

mummytopebs · 08/06/2012 22:47

They have done bloods, her white cells where raised and her swelling markers but. not to excess to warrant further investigations. She does spike temps up to 41 which I find really worrying. She has a consultant at a childrens hospital (not our local one) and he has asked to see her Tuesday.

Hope he can help sort things for her x

Hope she gets better soon. It is hard, especially when they need so much antibiotics as it may make them more susceptible to other pathogens. Do you give her pre and pro biotics to help her rebuild the flora in her intestines? How old is she?

It looks that she has been very unlucky to get two UTIs and then whooping cough. There is a lot of whooping cough this year. Pneumonia can be one of the complications of whooping cough.

There is also a lot of chickenpox and gastro-enteritis at the moment, so I would keep her well away from soft play centres and other places with lots of children if at all possible. Hopefully, the weather gets better soon, with people spending more time out in the open rather than cooped up closely together which makes it so easy for diseases to spread quickly.

Do you have any idea what is causing her to cry and scream? Do the doctors know what is causing the pain? Can she have paracetamol/ibuprofen? Do you know what is causing the bruising?

I hope you can get the answers you need and find the help you need. Do go back to GP/A&E until you know what is going on or if possible go private.

dikkertjedap · 08/06/2012 22:57

Sorry, X-post. Good luck on Tuesday I hope you can get some answers.

mummytopebs · 08/06/2012 23:03

She is 2. I am. avoiding soft plays etc at the minute. I do not know what is causing the pain and I am giving regular calpol. Sorry about the typing mistakes I am on my phone.

Hi Mummy, did you ever get a dx for your dd's limb colour changing etc (I remember your posts from a long while back) could there be a related underlying cause.
I hope she's feeling better soon.

mummytopebs · 08/06/2012 23:14

No still a mystery re limb colour changes and she still does it. She also swells and has epipens but her allergy levels are always fine. she is also photo sensitive. They still say she is a mystery and think it could be a new condition so yes this new thing could be related. Just feeling a bit helpless at the min. She has always need happy with all the things that happened but since April she is just miserable which is awful to see.

If the calpol is not enough to get rid of the pain, you may be able to give her calprofen or nurofen in addition. The ibuprofen also reduces inflammation in case there is any inflammation.

Apart from that there is not much you can do, except lots of attention and distraction, nice stories, watching dvd together, maybe playing games etc. Distraction is a wonderful thing when it looks there is nothing else left. I find that it really does make a difference (but it is very hard work for you).

mummytopebs · 09/06/2012 00:25

Unfortunatly she can not have ibrupfofen as she is on medication which reacts to it. Yes distraction does help a bit but its just awful to know something is hurting.

If you ask on tuesday they might be able to give you better pain killers
It's also worth checking her latest blood results for iron status and ask for a vitamin d test. Both could cause tiredness, vitamin d can also cause muscle and bone pain. Either her illnesses (with ferritin) or being inside a lot/wearing suncream (vit d) could cause deficiencies. I don't think it's the solution to all her problems but I can say that in the UK we very much neglect vitamin deficiencies. I was never even told dd was low in iron til her follow up appointment when they wanted to see how well the supplements had worked - duh - they'd never given us any or told us to include more dietary iron.
Other deficiencies could be calcium or magnesium but don't just supplement calcium, unless dietary. You can buy magnesium oil to rub on aching muscles and it helps my ds.

Do any of her meds cause deficiencies eg steroids can affect calcium + vit d
