Recurrent eye infection

Ds1 is 8 and has his 5th eye infection in 6 months. Always the same eye and doctor just gives us eye cream that clears it up for a few weeks before it comes back.
Taking him back again today. Has anyone got any experience of this? I am going to ask the doctor if I should replace all his bedding. I am at a loss at how to stop it coming back.

Have you tried your local optician? They are eye doctors and can probably tell you more than a general practitioner. And free for kids.

Optometrist here.
And my ds4 is like this. Some kids get sore throats, or earache, my guy gets conjuncitivitis.
You shouldn't need to replace the bedding, but unfortunately the pillowcase would need to be replaced daily while he's infected. Also best to use paper towels etc while he's infected to stop the infection getting on to towels.
I would bring him to your optician when he has a flare-up just to make sure it is actually conjunctivitis. There are other conditions that look similar as in you get a red eye but they're not treatable with antibiotics. We have slit-lamps and can look at the front of the eye in more detail that a GP can.

Have you had a swab taken to make sure it's definitely susceptible to the eye drops you've been given? Sometimes partially resistant bugs need longer courses of the right drops to completely clear them up or they reoccur.

Thank you for the replies. It didn't occur to me to take him to the optician Blush makes perfect sense. Will get him an appointment asap.
He has had another swab taken today. The last one showed infection and we were given stronger eye drops.
Will make an appointment at the opticians now. Thank you Smile
