Baby poo

My son is now 9 months old and up until last week his bowel movements were pretty regular (2 poo s a day). Now he his really straining himself to the point that he goes bright red in the face and actually crys (with pain). I was so distressed yesterday I opened his nappy to have a look at what was happening and found a poo stuck and his anus at full stretch and inflamed! I tried to pull out remaining poo, but within a few hours the same thing happened.... Any advice? Should I take my son to the Doctors today?

Sounds like he is a bit constipated. Increase the amount of liquid he is drinking. I also add a splash of orange juice to water and this helps get things moving. Also add more fibre to his diet to get things going....

Thanks, will try giving him fresh orange juice (diluted).

Prune juice can help too.

Ella's kitchen do a prune packet thingy that some mums i know swear by for getting their LO's tubes flowing.

Mini weetabix for breaky are great finger food and loads of fibre. I had to actually stop feeding it to my LO as he was getting too much fibre and was turning into a poo machine.

Oh dear, poor love. Id personally go to docs or phone hv for advice.

On the prune front, I used to put a prune or few in casseroles, they give a lovely depth to flavour and help with t'other end!
Dried apricots just covered with water and cooked for about 20 minutes can then be whizzed into a yummy sweet purée which is lovely swirled with natural yoghurt, or added to rice pudding or with porridge
Is he drinking enough? Could make homemade ice lollies with diluted juice as a different way of getting fluids in
