Is this silent reflux?

DD is 10.5 weeks, for the past week she's had the odd bout of painful crying after feeds (ebf), not every time, not every feed. After she's sat a while she seems very saliva-y - almost bubbly. Spits up a bit of milk occasionally when winding or after a feed, but not sick sick, and only occasionally can I see bits of whey in her mouth. She doesn't wind easily and suffers with windy tummy in the evenings - colicky crying for about half an hour - not bad I know!

So it's this new pained crying I'm trying to address - she doesnt settle so easily after a feed - I'm trying to keep her elevated after a feed, but I'm not sure whether to get her some infant gaviscon or something. Any ideas anyone?

Hi, it could be silent reflux or it could be a reaction to something you've eaten perhaps? My DS2 was allergic to dairy, I had to cut it right out of my diet.

If it is only some times, it could be a reaction rather than reflux (although disclaimer - I am no reflux expert).

Could you keep a food diary for a few days - basically put three columns times marked down the side, one headed 'my food', one 'breastfeeds', one 'crying/other'. Then you might be able to tie her crying back to your diet.

Yeah I'll try a food diary, but I've heard conflicting reports about whether mum's diet has any bearing on the child...

DD doesn't arch her back like a refluxy baby would. Could she still have silent reflux?

Where did you hear mum's diet didn't have an effect? My DS2 was treated by a number of consultants and all shared view that eating e.g. dairy could cause issues, it was they who advised I took a look at what I was eating.

Hope you find a solution.

On MN actually. Not sure I agree tbh, with DS I swear he reacted badly when I ate cauliflower and grapes!

Babe is too old for this to be colic so reflux or food intolerance is a fair bet. Gaviscon will I believe need prescribing at this young age, so your gp will help.
