Hi, need some advice. Over the last 7 days my 2 1/2 yr old has had a serious bump every day from falling over. It started by falling down the stairs, something he has been very good at doing from an early age. He has fell over 3 times just from running around, bumping head, lip and eye. While helping to make biscuits yesterday, he fell from his toddler stool whilst cutting out shapes, flat on his back. He has also injured his leg sitting at his toddler table and falling off the chair and just, he has ran straight into a little tikes car, landing flat on his back and starting to turn blue. Each time we have adminstered first aid. For one of these incidents I would not be overly concerned, but due to frequency I am beginning to think that I should. If I go to the gp I will now be seen as either an over sensitive first time mum as he is full of life all the rest of the time or a neglective mum for not taking him sooner and there being something serious wrong. What could be causing this?

I would err on the Sid of caution with this one. If he is normally well balanced and all of a sudden falling over for. O reason he could have an inner ear thing. The fact he has bumped his head too would worry me slightly. Can you call NHs 24 for advice. They might want him to go to out of hours to egret checked over.

Please listen to your instincts and get him checked out.

Taking action always makes you feel better too IME, rather than spending a day or two thinking 'Shall I, shan't I go to doc's?'

nhsdirect -out of hours gp
doubt its anything but best to get it checked

Sneezecakesmama · 03/06/2012 13:08

I would take him to your gp to be checked over, especially if this clumsiness is new. It could be a simple ear problem affecting balance. If it is longstanding then hyper mobile joints are a possibility. There are more serious things including having had a head injury from the first incident.

If the symptoms are really worrying you or are worsening contact the out of hours dr.

Might be worth taking to an optician to have a once over. GP's etc often put clumsiness down to a child's vision. So you could pre-empt them...

Mine used to do this ALL the time, she seemed to sport a bruise on knees and heads all the time.

But I would take your DC to the docs, my neice was the same and it turned out she needed glasses

Definitely get him checked out for peace of mind. If it is nothing physical, maybe get his feet measured. My DSs get clumsy if their shoes don't fit (or are very new)

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 06/06/2012 00:13

Definitely get him checked out and don't play it down at the appointment. I don't want to worry you, but it can be very serious. Hopefully it's not, but it definitely needs checking out ASAP.
