Could this be worms (again)? TMI Alert.

DD (6 years) had worms about 4 months ago. Very obvious symptoms -itchy anus at night that drove her almost demented, a very, red, sore area around her anus, and she was very tired and snappy. I finally caught the little buggers when I took a swift peek one night.

Ovex'd everyone immediately, then repeat within the recommended time.

A short time after that, she started complaining of stomach aches, 'spiky' pains in her tummy. GP has treated her for constipation (movicol), a little reflux (gaviscon) and still we return. I think he feels she's making it up. She's not. She's a tough wee thing who normally never complains about anything.

Tonight, she asked me to check her bottom, said it was stinging so when I looked, there was (here's the TMI) a tiny thread poking out, slightly thicker than a thread of cotton. So I gently pulled it out and it was about an inch and a half long. She said "ouch" when it pulled free and it felt that it was almost weakly attached to inside her little bottom. It wasn't moving, but one end seemed rounded compared to the other.

Is it at all possible that the worms survived the Ovex treatment? Would one have grown to this length? Would worms explain her frequent tummy aches?

Thanks for any advice on this.

They Come Back. Oh yes. Ovex works, but prepare for multiple uses.

But this one was HUGE Shock and she's not had any itching. Just pain. The original worms where white and thin and wriggly uuuuuurgh

To be honest, I'm hoping it is worms disgusting little critters because I can start tackling them again instead of feeling hopeless and unable to do anything whenever her tummy starts playing up.

were, not where. I'm losing the plot thinking of wriggly things.

Did you give her 2 doses of Ovex ? Makemsurw she sleeps in pants ans scrub nails with nail brush on waking.

wash all bedding and damp dust bedrooms, handles, banisters, etc.

make sure all family members Ovexed too

We're worm experts here. . . .

Oh and Vaseline on the bum hole stops the worms coming out and laying eggs in that area

Did you keep it? It could be another type of worm such as roundworm or whipworm, describe it to your GP, they should have an idea. The treatment may be different depending on the type of worm. I know Ovex works for roundworms and whipworms as well so treat just to be sure.

Zhen, thanks loads - I was starting to go a little mad. I've just this minute been googling Roundworms and the like.

I didn't keep it though - I just stared at it in the palm of my hand for a few seconds before I crushed it into a tissue and flushed it. It wasn't white like pinworms, it was a pale tan colour.

God!

had she been eating noodles or beansprouts (or something similar)as sometimes food can come through undigested?
