Hip dysplasia -newly diagnosed at 10 months.....

Feeling very frustrated as I've been saying since the 6 weeks check I suspect a hip problem the GP referred me to a physio who spent less then 3 minutes with him, booked the next appointment and sent us away, after 3 of those which were more a check up then physio and suddenly he DS is 7 months and she was ready to discharge, as she said this I said, I still do think he has a problem, uneven creases, very wide u shaped leg position and a slightly longer length leg, anyway she reluctantly agreed to a scan saying "well we better do it, cause other wise I'll feel awful if there is something" anyway a week ago he had an x ray and after a lot of chasing at 5pm the doctor called to say he had hip dysplasia, I tried to ask a bit more about it he said I cant comment now and you need a referral, so I asked him to do it under choose and book and now I'm not sure what's next, who to get him to see, and this actually means....I'm so annoyed we aren't coming out of dealing with it, rather than going into it, in a few months I go back to work etc etc...

Anyway we are in London if anyone has been through this at this stage would be great to hear......

Not been through it at this stage, we were lucky , my daughter was diagnosed early and had a pavlik harness for 3 months.
If you google STEPS they have lots of info re ddh at this age and a brill forum with parents that would have been through a diagnosis at this stage.

My daughter was diagnosed with Developmental Hip dysplasia at six months. She had unevern leg creases too. Now it has been diagnosed I'd imagine the consultant in this area at the hospital would make an appointment to see you, as this is what happened to us after the x ray process. He went through what would happen, why and when.
DD underwent surgery at Alder Hey as they felt she was too old for the Pavlick harness to work. She was in a Hip Spica cast for 4 months, and we only spent 2 nights in hospital.
It can be very daunting but as hatescolds suggested I found STEPS fantastic full of really great advice

Thank you for replying: Been a bit in limbo because of the jubilee bank holiday, the gp faxed the referral yesterday so should be (apparently) seen within a week, but will chase Monday if we haven't heard - Dipitydoyou, you post reads so calm and it made me take a step back and have some clarity for the situation that yes he will most likely have a cast for a while but we will deal with it - Thanks for posting and for Steps link, they have already been helpful.

How frustrating for you and what a relief your concerns have finally been taken seriously. Another vote for STEPS. Your GP should have referred you to a Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon. You want somebody who sees alot of children with DDH. If you don't hear early next week, I would get the number for the surgeon's secretary and chase an appointment.

Thank you - It's all been a bit lost in the system as GP thinks original physio should be doing the referral, Physio has n't seen the report and thinks GP should be doing it....I gave the GP's a name fore referral after much searching and hope they have done it, will chase Monday though - aghhhhhhhhhhhhh

sorry to barge in on thread but i've been worried about my dd - she is 5months. She has uneven creases on her legs. Does this mean she has hip dysplaxia? Or would there be other noticable things too? She wont really take any weight on her feet either but as a 1st time mum I don't know if that is just normal for a 5 month old?

Thanks for any advice xx

Hi Zambooloo - My sons only visible symptom have been uneven creases - so I would mention it to your HV, to me he also has a more of a U shaped leg look if that make sense but nothing too noticeable - having done a lot of research this week in some counties/NHS Trusts - Uneven creases seem to be enough to get a scan/x-ray in other areas they need 2 symptoms: but if you feel something isn't right push as early as you can, trust your mummy instinct -
