How do I get headline eggs off DD's hair?

We comb through every other day, when she has a bath with tea tree oil shampoo & conditioner using the nitty gritty comb.

She has got no live lice on her head just hatched eggs are I'm struggling to get them off her hair - she badly needs a haircut but the hairdresser won't touch her hair because of eggs - even tho I told her their is nothing live in her hair...at my wits end tbh.

Any help is appreciated..thanks
Ps DD is aged 7

I actually found the little comb that came with the nit treatment far better than the nitty gritty comb tbh.

Habe you actually used any nit treatment yet? If you do it one week, and then repeat seven days later, you should catch the hatchlings before more eggs are laid.

Just grip them in you fingernails and pull. If they're dead they should come away easily. I know its tedious if there is a lot of them though

If they are more than an inch from the scalp, its obvious they're dead anyway so the hairdresser should be fine with that

ChopstheScarletduck · 31/05/2012 12:53

Though I've always managed to do it once, and then just comb out the eggs.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 31/05/2012 13:01

Yeah she's had Full Marks on her head. They were more than an inch from the scalp - however, the hairdresser still wouldn't touch her hair.

Would love to be able to sit and physically pull them out with my fingers but my 7yr old won't let me as she refuses to sit for that long and with a 5 month old baby I haven't got the time or patience to wrestle with her tbh. Sad

TAOB Where did you find your info? I might print it off for and goto another hairdresser.

It's so frustrating as they will be cutting a considerable amount of hair off so most of the eggs would be gone anyway.

They're sticky little bastards, those empty egg cases. I had this with DS2 and they just slipped through any comb I used too.

What eventually worked was this (I will list in order of what I did as I can't be sure which bit was the 'magic')

  1. a long left it conditioner, comb through thoroughly
  2. rinse and shampoo with tea tree, comb through
  3. rinse with malt vinegar to water 1 to 5 parts,
  4. dry (preferably naturally so as not to cause any knots)
  5. brush (outside if poss Wink) with a traditional brush i.e. bristly not pronged

It is a palaver I know and more uncomfortable if her hair is longer.

If you don't want to do it all try a thorough brush followed by 3 - 5 as I think this is the bit that does it.

Good Luck.

bright light to see them with & pinch them off with my fingernails. Video for child to watch although I find they love the 1-2-1 attention & just chat away. Very satisfying!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 31/05/2012 13:27

I did explain to the hairdresser they were dead eggs and they were having none of it - came out of there Angry I went thru her hair again last night - no live just eggs.

will try that thanks do much Smile
