Advice pls. Can a plaster of paris cast become remoulded?

DD (6) has broken her arm and has an old-fasioned full length plaster of paris cast. This morning she says it feels tighter on her lower arm, and it does maybe appear a bit flattened but not cracked. Her arm is has now been in plaster nearly 3 weeks so shouldn't be swelling. It hasn't got wet, but I was wondering if she could have lain on it in the night, and as it was so hot her sweat (Ugh!) has moisened it and it's loosened. She's not a great historian so it's difficult to work out how tight it is - it's certainly not painful. Just wondering whether to go back to fracture clinic.

i would def go back

just sweating wouldn't cause it it to re mould or whatever

she will probably need a new cast

how come they didn't give her one of the lighter ones?

Give the plaster room a ring and get it checked over. They'll always squeeze you in if a plaster problem and can get an xr if needs be or earlier review by the team. Might need replacing if very damaged.

I"d take her back, or at least phone, just to be certain all was well.

Thanks - I will. It's a heavy POP one because the fracture had to be reduced. She was supposed to keep the same one on for 6 weeks.

Lightweight doesn't mould very well. If it needed manipulating or resetting in theatre then still fall back in old fashioned plaster of Paris as it's more forgiving. Both soften if wet.

No point worrying over it, just get it looked at. Keep arm up in the meantime, and fingers wiggling.
