How much does your 6yo eat?

DS1 eats more than I do! I don't know where he puts it all. Does anybody else have a really hungry 6yo?

He eats his normal three meals but also needs snacks in between otherwise he is desperately hungry. When I say snacks, I am talking something like x2 weetabix, or 2 slices of cheese on toast or a wrap with tuna/mayo.

Last night, he ate a good tea, then before bed he polished off 2 weetabix with rice milk, banana and yogurt followed by pear and scooshy cream.

He is not skin and bone, but is fairly sturdy. Saying that, I can see his ribs at the back, so he is definitely not fat.

I am dreading the teen years if this is a sign of things to come....

DD1 is 6 this weekend and doesn't eat particularly large amounts - although she does prefer to graze!
But DD2 is 5 in September and eats about 5X the amount of DD1! She isn't all skin and bones either, but is quite tall and gangly!
She must say the words 'Im huuuuungry' about 1000 times a day - even after just eating a huge meal. Although I think she works it all off because she cannot physically just walk anywhere, she leaps and bounces along!

YY to "I'm huuuuungry" It's incredible!

DS1 has loads of energy and doesn't walk anywhere either. I guess he must be burning it all off too!

Ds1 eats loads.
Sometimes his portions are larger than mine and he has healthy snacks and porridge before bed.
He is tall for his age and wear size 8 trousers. Also, he is very skinny. But, constantly on the go.
I never anticiapted having to buy so much food.
I too am dreading the teenage years!

WowOoo yes his portions are larger than mine, especially if it's a dish that he likes. Three plates of lasagne for example. I remember when the lasagne used to do me and DH for two meals, and now it's polished off in one sitting. I will need to get a bigger lasagne dish!!

My DS is 5 and is skin and bone. He eats ALL the time. He eats more on days he has an activity. Like today is martial arts and we don't get home until 6, so he has a mini tea before we go as a snack isn't enough, then full tea when we get back. He def eats more than me. I just try and keep it healthy.

Breakfast is usually two bowls of cereal, lunch is a roll or wrap, cheese, yoghurt, cherry tomatoes and carrots. He takes fruit or a low sugar(homemade muffin) for a mid morning snack at school. Eats a fruit ryvita on the way home from school and a snack when he gets in. Then tea is whatever we are having plus a yogurt. He eats a lot of raw carrots and fruit inbetween too.

You are lucky with your child. Dd now 12 has always been very overweight and doesn't eat hardly anything. Can't get a pound off her even with exercise. A normal day would be small bowl of cereal with skimmed milk, orange and pineapple juice. Nothing for break at school. Then 2 wholemeal snack rolls with chicken or turkey in. Then evening meal. Eight o'clock a fresh fruit salad i make myself. That is it. She doesn't eat in between and never eats crisps or sweet stuff or cakey things. Just how she is i suppose. Her friends are all thin and eat way more than dd does. It is so annoying and also upsetting.

My six year old seems to eat more than me. She has cereal, toast and fruit for breakfast. Sandwich with two slices of bread for lunch, plus 2 biscuits plus fruit. Comes home starving. Will have two yoghurts, banana, biscuit. Then tea - meat/fish, potatoes and veg. Then an ice lolly or ice cream. Then later maybe some cheese or crisps and another banana and perhaps another yoghurt. She's skin and bone. Can't help thinking she's going to get enormous when she's older with these eating habits.

DD constantly has comments on how much she eats. Sometimes she will eat 3 breakfasts. No matter how much she eats, she won't go for more than 2 hours without food. I worry about how we're going to pay for food when she and her brother become teenagers. She's never been skinny, but she's also never been anywhere near overweight, and I suspect she got the big eating gene from me.

I'm glad to see he's not the only one with hollow legs!!

my DD will be 6 in October..she is very slim, she eats from morning until night..this morning she has had cereal, raisins, 3 slices of toast, 2 cups of ordinary milk and one of chocolate milk before school, then she grabbed some mini oatcakes as she left. She will have a snack and school, and lunch, be hungry for a snack after school and then eat dinner and want supper before bed. It's unbelievable really.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 31/05/2012 09:38

snack *at school, she won't actually EAT school, although it would not surprise me!

expectingno2 · 31/05/2012 22:35

another one here with a huge eater - varies in amount but she is consistenly starving and pretty high energy - never sits still even when she is sitting still if you see what I mean - she is just over average height but just over 9th centile for weight (saddo mummy weighed and measured the children this morning). younger bro similar height and weight at same age but eats waaaay less
