Any genius ideas to allow my broken legged toddler have a splash in this weather?

So, glorious weather and a brave two and a half year old looking on forlornly at all the paddling pool splashing around her. I feel awful for her.we've attempted cling film ( it got holey), I'm sure someone has used their brains better than we have on this. Got to keep the cast dry but I feel terrible for the poor little broken soldier. Any inspiration out there?

Do you have any waterproof trousers? Cut off one leg so the unbroken leg is out, gaffer tape up the ankle on the broken leg?

CMOTDibbler · 27/05/2012 21:11

Get a Limbo - totally waterproof

washing up bowl next to her with some toys in? it really is rubbish but you I don't think there is anything that will be water tight enough to submerge her without soaking the cast. You could try covering the cast in a tesco bag and taping it firmly at the top, that would make it splash proof and you could play with the hose or shower in the bath? Or a water gun aimed at torso and arms. HTH

I spent my youth in plaster cast. My parents used to put my leg in a bin bag )or two) and tape the top off!

Oooh a Limbo that looks good! I stand corrected!

Boggler · 27/05/2012 21:16

You need to get a 'limbo' have a look at this link

They're brilliant my son broke his arm last year and after trying some DIY methods of keeping hs cast dry, I found out about limbo. After getting one bath time was a doddle and he was able to swim on holiday which made our holiday last summer bearable. :-)

Just had this with ds2, eventually found someone who did waterproof casts and changed his cast for a waterproof one (with a zipper which meant it could be taken off and on too!)

But these protectors look great, wish I had found them at the time!

Howmanymoresleeps · 27/05/2012 21:26

They look the business and I'm not even contemplating this nightmare but the estimated time they've given us for taking off the cast is perilously close to our French campsite holiday......with lots and lots of pools......she'll be better....
Those covers HYPOTHETICALLY would work for a hypothetical child in that hypothetical situation wouldn't they. Can they really be immersed?

I really feel for you and your dd, ds1 was 2 when he broke his leg in really hot weather. It really is miserable.

My mum had a limbo when she broke her leg for showering, they really do work.

MaureenMLove · 27/05/2012 21:32

Those limbos really do work. When DD broke her wrist a couple of summers ago, I looked for one, just so that she could have a nice bath. The cuffs are made of the same material they use on the seals of dry suits for scuba diving.

I used a Limbo when I had a broken arm and my arm was set with the elbow bent. It was not easy to get on or off but was brilliant at keeping water out whilst I showered or bathed.

We had a friends child( 7 years ) staying with us with a broken wrist and cast . She arrived downstairs with her cast in one hand apparently she was wriggling it and it just came off Grin. Trip to A&E to get re-casted and frantic calls to find parent to meet us there.

CMOTDibbler · 27/05/2012 21:39

They really can be immersed. I have spent 7 months of the last 18 months in plaster, so mine got a lot of use. I have another type as well, and that did not work as well at all

Howmanymoresleeps · 27/05/2012 21:50

Ah thanks for all the advice. Feeling better now. Just placed an order for the limbo. One more thing to make her feel a bit better about it all. Smile

Yes they can't definitely e fully immersed, my son swam in the pool with his and everything stayed dry. Just make sure the seep is tight and away you go.
