DS2 is 6. Said he had head ache, sore throat and tummy ache. Gave Calpol. Temp went from 37 to 36.7 after 20 minutes on Calpol. His normal is 36.6.

Keep off as it sounds like the start of something and temp will probably rise as day goes on.

nappydaysagain · 24/05/2012 07:40

I'd keep him off. Especially if he's still got tummy ache Smile

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 07:40

Personally i would base my judgement on what he is like. If I kept my children off whenever they said they had X Y or Z they would never be in school - with DD (6) I always mention to the teacher that she's claimed to be unwell and say that I am contactable all day if she needs to come home. She never neeeds to come home!

LackaDAISYcal · 24/05/2012 07:40

If aches have gone after the calpol, I would send him.

mumblechum1 · 24/05/2012 07:41

I'm the same as Soupy.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 07:42

DD said she had a tummyache on Tuesday. She never mentioned it again after school.

LackaDAISYcal · 24/05/2012 07:43

Meant to add, I only keep mine off if they have a fever, ie temp over 38

LackaDAISYcal · 24/05/2012 07:44

And he may just be a bit dehydrated after the last few days....is be drinking plenty?

JustFab · 24/05/2012 07:48

Temp is now 36.3. He is eating rice crispies. Looking a lot less red in the face. I told him his head was better but he said his throat and tummy still hurt but also he "might as well stay at home as there isn't time to have a shower and get dressed."

DH and I still disagreeing.

if a child needs calpol to be ok then please keep him home. as soon as the calpol wears off he will be poorly again.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 07:54

"he said his throat and tummy still hurt but also he "might as well stay at home as there isn't time to have a shower and get dressed.""

Hmmm... that last part would set my alarm bells ringing. I have had many a child claim to be too ill for school and then, by 9:30, be better.

Sirzy · 24/05/2012 07:55

I would send him in. Chances are when he is in he will be fine but if there is a problem then he can be sent home.

JustFab · 24/05/2012 08:02

He looks better. Is chatting to daddy but said his legs hurt when he stood up. Animated now Confused. I think he shoudl go. DH not. I feel mean. He has to come with me to take DS1 so I will have to decide when we get there.

Notinmylife · 24/05/2012 08:04

I'd send him in and make the teacher aware. Could you nip to the school at lunch time to give him another dose of Calpol if he needs it?

JustFab · 24/05/2012 08:06

I could but there was an incident last time he felt under the weather so not sure the school will even take himn today. I have to go in a minute to take ds1 anyway so I will decide when I get there.

"Could you nip to the school at lunch time to give him another dose of Calpol if he needs it?"

ShockShockShock

you wouldn't really do this would you??????

GnocchiNineDoors · 24/05/2012 08:48

Unless D&V or too poorly to gt out of bed, send him in. Teachers will send him home if he's poorly at school.

As a pp said, keep kids off for X,Y or Z and they'd never be in.

Typically, nervousness/unsurity in kids manifests itself as a stomachache. Is there anything big happening at the moment?

BertieBotts · 24/05/2012 08:49

Keep off, because when the calpol wears off his temperature will rise again (especially if he's running about outside in this heat) and the school aren't usually allowed to give medications so they will call you in anyway.

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 24/05/2012 08:54

I tend to go by the rule of temp under 38, no vomiting and eating breakfast = school.

But you know if he is truly unwell, do you think he just fancies a day off?
My ds2 tries this from time to time.

Littleviolet · 24/05/2012 08:55

I would keep him at home definitely. He could have a long miserable day otherwise.

But bertie, he has 37 C Confused that is not a fever (even if normal temp is 36.6).

JustFab · 24/05/2012 09:53

I have brought him home. His temperature rose twice while I was talking to the school matron and he has some white coating on his tongue too.

What would be wrong with dosing up at school? And the nurse would do it anyway if he needed it but I think a home day is for the best.

Thanks all Smile.

There is some weird virus going around that just causes a slight temp, not much else. I had it last week. DP had the 'man' version and had to take to his bed for a couple of days Grin

My rule is if they eat breakfast, they go to school

JustFab · 24/05/2012 10:54

I think right decision to stay off as he looks really tired now.
