Ds before going to bed tells me he's been having some funny things happening to his eyes.. He's says they go blurry then get black squares, then it goes. He said it first happened last week... I obviously need to get an eye test, do I go through gp or call an optician? Thanks

I would first take him to the optician. Has he been playing with his eyes, e.g. pushing on his eyelids with eyes closed because then you get funny patterns as well? Is he very tired?

He should have had his eyes tested several times by now anyway. Take him to an optician asap. It'll be free.

Do the black squares last for a while? It could be an ocular migraine. I've had a few. No pain just blurry and then parts of my vision goes black.

He is tired, we had a big family doo at the weekend celebrating his sisters birthday... SATS at school, will keep an eye but will make an appointment for eye test. He's had no headache but dh gets ocular migraines as does my niece so could well be that. Thanks for your help.

I get that with migraines too. Once I had my sight go too in one eye. Sometimes I have got it without migraine, but it's usually when I've taken painkillers quickly or removed the trigger for migraine.

I'd second the possibility of ocular migraine, especially as your DH & niece gets it, if he's over tired that, plus the stormy weather we've had recently could well be triggers - I get it too & have had it a lot recently

Take him to an opticians, if the opticians thinks he needs the doctor he will refer him to the doctor.
