Braces to slow lower jaw

Extremely confused, so I need some MN's wisdom. DS1 is almost 9. Last year in January, dentist told us DS needed braces because of his habit of tongue thrusting. So he had a special one for the upper mouth , he only put it after school and at night. He has now got ridden of the habit, Meanwhile, in this last year he lost several molars, canines, mainly in the upper part.
Now the dentist - which we saw every month for control, tells us his lower jaw is growing more than his upper jaw resulting in teeth being in the same line and not slightly forward as they should be.
And he wants now to put another brace.
My first question is : is it possible that the brace for the tongue thrusting slowed/blocked the growth of the upper jaw? Second: do we have to do something now. DS is growing so fast this year.
And if we have to do something, what's the scenario. We have an appointment to discuss the matter next week, so I want to go with the right questions
TIA

No idea, but it's v common. Dd1 has braces to give her an overbite as hers was the same. She's 12. You can of course wait and see what happens, and get it corrected later. Often NHS orthodontists opt for this approach rather than treating whilst teeth are still moving around and falling out, and second teeth growing in. We were given the option of orthodontic work at 7 after surgery, but opted to leave it until 11. The chances are that there is more to correct at that point, if you can see a problem developing. But I would have no problem in saying let's have six monthly check ups and see where we go, if you aren't keen on more treatment at this point.

Thanks, Madwomanintheattic.
It's not that I am not willing to have braces now, but first the tongue, fine, now the jaw, fine, then it will be another for ???? and at 13 .... i'll do what need to be done, I just don't want to overdo. IYSWIM
