Chicken pox spots in vulva

Dd1 has lots of chicken pox spots inside her vulva and it is really hurting her when she does a wee. Any ideas what would be the best cream to put on it. I've just put some bepanthen on as that is what I had to hand but wondering of there would be something better for it.

I used virasoothe on DS3 when he had the pox, was a gel rather than a cream and worked pretty quickly.

Hope she heals quickly, poor thing.

Anything that can act as a barrier really. And get her to drink lots of water to neutralise the urine. If its very bad, get her to wee in the bath or pour water on her as she goes

Has she seen the dr? WHen my DD had pox and got them there, the dr was quite concerned

Really? What was he concerned about? Our doctors are pretty good so I'll ring and ask them later if that is the case.

She's just mentioned that her eye is hurting too which is a bit worrying. I hope she doesn't have to see the doctor, she's scared of seeing the doctor and think she'd find one looking at her bottom pretty traumatic :(

Mine had them everywhere - eyes, bits, they were plastered.

Bath in bicard of soda twice a day with tea tree and lavender oils in it.

Leave to dry (not towel drying) so oil stays on skin.

Cover in calamine cream - not lotion.

I plastered their bottom and genitals in sudocream.

Whatnamethistime · 22/05/2012 08:23

He wouldnt have to look - he can just take your word for it.

greensnail · 22/05/2012 08:38

Thanks, I have calamine cream, sudocrem and bicarb so I can do that bit at least.

Dd2 had it last year so I thought I knew what I was doing this time!

apparently some people think sudocream is bad for CP, but it def worked for us, the younger especially was dreadful in that area as she was still in nappies, hardly any of their spots blistered and they have no CP scars, my second one to get it was much worse than the 1st.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 22/05/2012 09:55

If her eye hurts get her checked as soon as possible, it is possible to have CP on the eye ball and she will probably need some drops to avoid scaring and/or infection.

For the vulva problem, leave it alone! make her pee in a bath or pour water while peeing, pat dry without rubbing. No cream on it it might get infected.

I don't know how old you dd is, but when my dd had it really badly, I just let her stay in a bicarb bath pretty much all day as it was the only place she felt comfortable, we played games on the side of the bath, watched dvd's on the laptop or I read books to her.

We spent the worst couple of nights in there too.

Dd had this over Easter. I second bicarb baths - she sat in them for hours, and I encouraged her to wee in the bath too to avoid the stinging. Virasoothe is great for the external spots, we alternated it with calamine cream but neither can be used internally. Our GP (over the phone, i didn't take her in to avoid spreading it) and NHS Direct both suggested Vaseline for the internal ones to act as a barrier. Putting anything on was a nightmare though, I ended up bribing her with chocolate buttons!

AmandinePoulain · 22/05/2012 10:05

Oh, and piriton orally too.

greensnail · 22/05/2012 11:30

Thanks everyone. I think the bepanthen helped a bit anyway as she didn't complain on her next pee.

She's 3.5 and can't keep her in the bath too long as dd2 (2 tomorrow) gets fed up after a while. I might try a bicarb paddling pool later though!

Sorry, forgot to check for replies. TBH I'm not sure what he was worried about, but when I phoned and spoke to the dr, he requested we took her in to have the ones on her vulva checked. She also had them on her eyeballs and needed drops (that was fun - she was 2.10 at the time)

The bicarb is great for it, but you need a lot more than you think - most people only use a couple of spoonfuls. To be effective you need a couple of large handfuls. Hope she recovers quickly
