My poor dgs has just gone a whole week without pooing-before this it was 6 days. He has lactulose and senna from gp but is complaining of tummy ache and is obviously scared to go. A couple of days ago the poo was just visible ( tmi sorry) but went back. He is eating a little but drinking lots including prune juice in warm water. Does anyone have any ideas? They will be back to doc tomorrow I think but I wondered if MN wisdom had anything to offer.

Really needs movicol. it is really important to sort it out quickly with correct treatment because if rectum becomes stretched it can take years to regain feeling in bowels. We needed gastroenterologist to sort it eventually and a very slow and distressing process.

Dx of fecal impaction. Given movicolx 4 sachets still no result. All very worried. He has a very healthy diet and is usually a lively, happy child. Gp will give suppository tomorrow.

It can take up to 12 sachets a day to clear it. Then my DS was on 4 sachets a day for a year to prevent it rebuilding. it will be a slow process, many children are on movicol for a very long time.

Finally some success after movicol and two suppositories. Gp very reassuring and says he probably sees one a week like this. Dgs was a bit scared but very relieved and told us that his brain understood how to make his bottom work now! Fortunately it wasn't too painful. He will be on meds for a few more days to make sure it is sorted.

This book helped my ds to be more relaxed about going to the toilet.

Its worth a go. We used to have long conversations about it but he stopped being frightened of going to the toilet.

Thanks heather we have printed that off last time this happened and he loves it. He does refer to his poo as if it has a mind of its own sometimes!

Feed him loads of pineapple and pineapple juice. It has laxative effects...
