Loose stools every morning. Why?

My three year old is healthy in every other way, thank goodness. He eats and drinks well, has a very balanced diet, is energetic and happy, sleeps well and even still naps in the afternoons after nursery.

But every morning (and sometimes later in the day too) he does a loose, lighter coloured poo, annd has been doing so fir about three weeks now.

I think it's time to take him to the docs now. I'd been thinking it would surely pass, putting it down to maybe a stomach bug, then to a mild cold, but now it just feels wrong, that it should go on so regularly for this long.

I won't google it as no good comes of this! I just wonder whether anyone has any experience of this in their children.

It could be toddler diorreah (sp?) think it's to do with the milk in their diet it just kinda happens. It's very common. sure someone more knowledgeable will be along to explain soon :)

Thanks for the reply, wheresmy :). Do you know if that would be because of a change in milk consumption? Or is it just to do with how they digest it? I wonder if milk digestion can just change like that.

Just looked up toddler diarrhea. Could well be that! Going to try more startch, more yoghurt, and less juice to see if that helps. Thank you wheresmy :)

Your welcome :) hope it improves !!! It pretty common

:) I learn something new every day!

My eldest was one of those toddlers with a 'thing' about pooing so we usually ended up with the opposite type of problem!

My DD (18 months) has what I think is toddler diarrhoea - she has probably done a solid poo 5 times in her life?!!

We have been to the doctors to rule out a milk/wheat intolerance, cut down on fruit, stopped giving fruit juice, boosted bread/potatoes, cut out citrus - over the last few months, but nothing ever makes any difference

but..

she is happy, healthy, doesn't suffer with wind, constipation or tummy pains, and is putting on weight so I am now giving her a normal diet, cutting nothing out and trying not to worry!

Interesting. And that's always been that way, since she started solids?

Good for you for being sensible about it.

It has really, yes.

I remember the doctor saying that it can sometimes be caused by a viral infection and can be short or long term, which may be the case for your ds, and that it's usually outgrown.
At one point I was convinced it was milk, and moved her to soya, but while she likes, and still has it, it hasn't made any difference.

I'm just hoping in our case it's outgrown before we have to potty train...or it will be very interesting...
