Extra virgin coconut oil for cradle cap?

Hi! My 4 1/2 month old has cradle cap. I use Dentinox shampoo and did the olive oil prior to bath plus brushing off gently but she still seems to have it. I think it's itchy for her too as she keeps on touching her head and accidentally scratching herself. Now, I read that Extra virgin coconut oil might help. Has anyone tried it? Does it work? And where can I buy it or what brand would you recommend? Thank you!

I don't know if that works but when ds2 had really bad cradle cap we accidentally got rid of it On holiday. I would be slathering on factor 50 baby sun lotion on his head and washing it out at night. After a week all cradle cap was gone. We too had tried debt unix and olive oil.

We bought some coconut massage oil from Waitrose baby section and used that. `massaged it in at night before bed, overed her sheet with a towel and in the morning combed it out and every couple of days washed her hair.

My ds who is six and a half still suffers with crusty itchy cradle cap. We oil him and use dentinox but it will not go away. He's been to doctors a couple of years ago who thought it was nothing more than cradle cap. Ds does sometimes also have a bit of excema behind his ear. Is it possible it still could be cradle cap or something else. His dt brother has it too, just not so bad. They both have quite short hair so we can keep oiling them up!

My ds eventually got rid of his cradle cap when he first got nits!! So the suncream post rings true. Cream/ oil and combing is the key!

So should I comb through after oil? I heard that just made the scalp produce more crust?

I second the PP who asked if it might not be cradle cap - DS' ezcema was originally misdiagnosed (by an HV) as cradle cap, and Dentinox made it worse.

We tried the Waitrose coconut massage oil. It made it look better, but didn't get rid of it. It got so bad on poor DS that his scalp got all cracked and bleeding. The doctor prescribed hydrocortisone cream and it went overnight.

This only works for bald babies!

Spring forward what did the ezcema look like? My dts have a sort of crust that is holding the hair flat to the scalp in places , slightly creamy colour. sorry tmi for early morning Smile

I can only describe it as rough/ dry/ flaky and like a soft scab - basically the skin seemed a bit broken and must have been weepy to form a crust?

Once I got DS diagnosed I suddenly saw babies with that kind of scales pattern you get with cradle cap and realised he had never looked like that.

coconut oil (the solid stuff that turns to oil in your finger that is not massage oil - though this might work I've jus never tried it) is brilliant, slather head and then fine comb

oh generally exzema the skin looks sore, cradle cap doesn't just dry and crusty
