Threadworms - what to do with soft toys

DD has threadworms. Yuk yuk yuk :(

I've treated her & will be treating DH when he comes in from work. DD2 & I can't be treated (I'm still bf & she's too little), so I'm being extra vigilant about cleaning etc

But what do I do about DD's soft toys. There are loads of them - quite a few that are permanently in her bed and according to the washing instructions, can only be surface cleaned. There's going to be ructions if I have to take them away.

Any ideas what I should do?

(and any suggestions about how to get her to stop sucking her fingers too...)

Yuk. Yuk. They never told me about this part of being a mum.

Right. Back to scrubbing :(

I'd stick it all in the machine. Mostly they say surface clean on them so that if something changes shape slightly you can't hold them responsible. I've never lost or spoiled a soft toy that way. Use a brush to get fur back to fluffiness afterwards.

What about putting some toys in the freezer? :)

I think freezing just puts threadworm eggs on 'hold', sadly [yuk]

When we were pretty sure (didn't see any) dd1 had threadworm, we put a load in the machine regardless of what the label said, and bagged up others in bin bags for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, the eggs should all be dead. I vaguely remember spinning some story about cuddlies going on holiday, which didn't work, so then I just explained about how they might all have caught the teeny worms that we thought she had, and how they couldn't take medicine so they needed to be in isolation as though they had chicken pox Grin

Poor you, wishing you stamina and worm-free life asap. BTW, I took Pripsen (with piperazine, not mebendazole) when BFing and so did dd2 - both fine.

Thanks all. Teddies in the washing machine tomorrow it is. Thankfully 2 of the most important ones are machine washable & went in this evening. I wimped out of taking ultimate favourite teddy away, but gave him a wash & a vacuum so hopefully it won't be a problem.

I was told I could take whatever it was they gave for DD, but only if I wasn't going to feed for 3 hours. In theory it's possible but DD2 has a cold and has been feeding a lot, so I figured I'd sit it out this time & dose myself if we dont manage to get rid of them.

Yuk yuk yuk. Sad

Does she have wee worms wriggling out her bum???
I remember having those as a kid. Yuk!!

All our teddies went in the washing machine when we had our first outbreak of HF&M. Some of them didn't survive and ended up in Teddy Heaven, but most survived no problem.

Doing them all again now.

Buy a lingerie/bra bag to put them in - the water & soap can still get to them, but it seems to stop them getting as bashed in the machine.

I threw mine in with tea towels and some bio detergent and they came out fine - maybe a bit mishapen, but a quick tug here and there while they were still damp sorted them out.
