It isn't chicken pox, so what is it then??

DD came out in a rash on Saturday which initially I thought was the start of chickenpox, even the pharmacist said that's what she thought. I was not wholly convinced and as the week's gone on it's not developed in the way CP would, so now I am 99% certain it isn't.

Trouble is, I don't know what it could be... I spoke to the GP over the phone yesterday who agreed it didn't sound like CP and said it might be nettle rash/hives (it's not, Dr Google said so! Grin ) and when I asked whether I should bring DD in, she said no and just to carry on with the piriton as DD is well in herself Hmm

Today she is a bit phlegmy, but still right as rain in herself.
She has the rash all over her torso, arms, legs and a little bit on her face. Started out like very tiny blisters, but now just feels like raised bumps and the skin around them is red and blotchy. The legs are the worst, especially her thighs. It followed what I thought was a bit of heat rash at the back of her neck and one of her knees - which may or may not be connected.

Any ideas anyone? Could it be a post-viral rash as I don't really know what these look like??

We thought DD3 had CP a few weeks as she had the most hideous blistery things that started on her arms and legs in her eczema. Turned out to be Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. As the spots cleared, they took the eczema with them and she was itch free for about 3 weeks. Now returning alas in all its itchy glory. Sad I just need to make sure she has some kind of infection every so often... Hmm

A post viral rash wouldn't be blistery, in my experience. No idea what it could be though.

they're not blistery now RB. They ooked like tiny blisters initially, but look more like insect bites now I suppose...

duchesse I thought HF&M spots didn't appear on legs/torso?? Confused

I wonder whether it's slapped cheek. When dd1 had it it looked like circles of bumpy sunburn all over the top of her arms and legs, and spread all over her body. Gp initially put it down to an allergic reaction and recommended piriton, then it came out on her face and dd2 caught it and it was then obviously slapped cheek. Piriton helps with it too, so it didn't matter.

Dd1 was completely well in herself, but dd2 got a very high temperature with it.

I did think of that, but really don't think it is - it doesn't look like sunburn at all.

That's how we worked out it was HFM: she had no spots on her body at all, only arms, legs and chin- it never spread beyond her chin and patches of eczema but looked simply vile. I eventually googled and found a picture of a little boy with HFM with the exact same pattern of blisters on his chin. HFM was/is going around nursery last month.
