hi all,

My DD2, 25 months, hasn't pooed in just over a week. I noticed on Tuesday it had been a few days so upped intake of fruit/fluids, plenty plums etc and cut down on bread. She is generally very good with fruit and fluids so I don't think it's the issue.

Anyway, she didn't seem bothered till Saturday when she was trying so I gave her lactulose and have been giving her it since. Yesterday she was really sore and upset. So tried massaging, bathing her, pushing her legs up etc but still nothing.

I'm not sure if docs is open today but will call later but any other advice? someone suggested syrup of fig, I've never heard of it but will send DP out later.

The wee soul is just so lethargic and upset just now :(

TIA

Have you tried giving warm orange juice? Always works for my dd.

Out of hours gp will be open, or ask the local pharmacist.

Similar problems in past and have been told stewed pear is the secret. Lots of water and actually not much fibre, ie weetabix, as can make it worse. However am not a doctor...

The pharmacist will only give lactulose but if docs not open I'll phone out of hours.

I have tried warm water but will try warm orange juice, thanks :)

Stewed pear, am on it! Thanks

Should I avoid milk/dairy?

Phone ooh.

I had similar issue a few weeks ago with ds. We left it and it went v horrible, v quickly.

On my phone so I can't link to my thread but search my username for it. Was in childrens health section. It will show the steep downward spiral and weeks of fallout.

He's fine now but still medicated 2 months + later.

My DS was consitipated when he was about 1. My GP told me to avoid Weetabix, as it bungs you up. He was taking lactulose for about 6-8 months, as the rectum gets stretched and needs time to recover.
I found this link explained the problems that can occur:

Just remembered... weak tea and warm baths. Tea seemed to get things moving and warm baths allowed for relaxation (and the consequences...) :)
Try it all, hope it works x

Thanks all, phoned NHS 24 and just waiting on a phOnecall with an appointment time.

Doughnutty I read your thread, your poor DS, sounds awful. All better now I hope? You had mentioned he had chicken pox, when was that? DD just got over chicken pox so wondering if it's related?

nothing to do with the pox!

He's fine now, thank you.

Didn't want to scare you but, I put off calling as it was a weekend when we realised, even though I was advised not to leave it. Would hate anyone to go through what we did. Better to go to gp and "waste their time" than let it get really bad. I had no idea before ds's incident that it could have such long term implications. Not worth the risk.

Hope the natural remedies work though. Good luck x
