Vomiting 3 yr old with temp of 41

My three year old gas been conning all night with a temp of 41. She can't keep calpol or water down so I can't tackle the temp. it's the weekend so GP is closed. Is it normal to have such a high temp with a stomach bug? Should I get her checked out?

That shld say vomiting, not conning!

That's a very high temperature, and she could get dehydrated. I'd ring out of hours for advice. Just to be sure

Is there a walk in centre you can go to? I'd want to get her seen with a temp that high. If not you could try ringing NHS Direct and see what they suggest.

Have you tried phoning your GP, there should be an out of hours message that tells you how to get help if you need it when they are closed.

I would get her checked. Go to the walk-in centre or ring the out of hours number for your gp, use nhs direct online or even a and e, depending on how worried I was.

I know you are right, she needs checking. Annoyingly our out of hours doesn't do phone advice and is a bad drive through London traffic. Ditto our paeds A&E. DD is asleep now so I will wait til she wakes and bundle her in the car.

I've seen high temps with tonsillitis and ear infections before but not a stomach bug. The temp started before the vomiting. Has anyone else seen a bug like this?

It is most likely just an unpleasant bug but you do need to get her checked out this morning and please just take a look at this www.meningitis.org/symptoms/toddlers/ and keep it in mind - unlikely to be this but easily missed when it does happen unless people stay alert to the small possibility.

I work with children and I have seen bugs like that, yes. It's just the body dealing with the infection. It is probably one of those viral illnesses that children love to share. Things like flu and chickenpox can start with vomiting and a high temp, so it is best to get her seen to rule all of those out.
Hope she is feeling better soon Smile

Why don't you try the nhs online checker while she is asleep?

The vomiting could be caused by the high temp rather than a tummy bug so best to get her checked out incase she has a infection (ear, UTI, throat). Hope she feels better soon xxxxx
