Head bump and vomiting- wwyd?

Facts only post as im trying to get quick opinions.

Dd fell down the stairs at 10am- she's 20 months.

Has a small red mark on forehead, no swelling.

Cried for ages ( more scared cry than a pain cry though) and fell asleep on me- unusual as she naps after lunch most days.

Then has been reasonably happy and her normal self this afternoon.

Ate loads of dinner and asked for seconds. Then half hour later threw up- undigested dinner.

Fine again although a little grumpy as its bedtime...

Usual advice would be a visit to a and e but wwyd?

I would go to a and e better to be safe than sorry

Take her in, you should be seen quickly with a little un. I dropped the baby the other day Blush and their first question at A&E was has she been sick.

Baby fine by the way, but I'm broken!

A and E
I work with children and if they have a bump on the head at nursery we give them a slip that warns them to look out for signs of concussion
vomiting is one of those signs
The thing with head injuries is that you just can't be sure. She may be fine and the vomiting could be unrelated but it really is best to get it checked. Why don't you phone your gp or nhs direct.
DD fell down the stairs at 13 months, was absolutely fine, no mark or anything but I still took her as I panicked. They gave her an xray and told me I had done the right thing.
Hope your DD is alright Smile

Would call nhs direct now and if they take ages to get back to you just go to a&e

Vomiting after a fall = a&e

chelen · 04/05/2012 19:00

I'd go straight to A&E, NHS Direct will tell you to go there anyway as it is a young child showing one of the warning signs of concussion

Springforward · 04/05/2012 19:01

Pop to A&E.

NickNacks · 04/05/2012 19:02

Ok off we go thanks :)

How is your DD?

hellymelly · 04/05/2012 22:53

Hope all is fine .

NickNacks · 04/05/2012 23:59

Well we've just got home and she did have concussion! Argh I feel so shit! My 'mothers instinct' is obviously a tad off. She really did seem
Fine or obviously I would have acted sooner.

They nearly kept us in but as it was one vomit and not two they said we could come home on the proviso that any slight change and we take her back in.

Thanks for telling me to go!

Glad she is ok. Smile

AThingInYourLife · 05/05/2012 07:50

Glad she is OK :)

Don't feel bad (I know you will anyway :( ), concussion is very, very tricky to spot. That's why we have to be so careful with bangs on the head.

But little kids get so many bangs... it's hard to know.

Anyway, your instinct to ask for advice after she vomited was bang on, and she's fine :)

EmilyPollifaxInnocentTourist · 05/05/2012 08:52

Concussions are difficult to spot. Kids can get massive goose eggs on their heads with no concussion and small bruises with little ones.

Your mothers instinct is fine. You were worried and you asked for help. That's the best any mother can do. :)

You can practically guarantee whichever you had done would have been wrong Grin

Main thing is you went and she is ok.
