How long can you leave a 10 yo with severe vomiting before contacting Dr?

DD has been vomiting (violently) since midnight. There has been nothing to bring up since her first bout, it has been every half hour since.

No fluid is staying down, even after sucking half an ice pop it came straight back up.

She has a temp but any pain relief is coming back up.

How could she be left like this before I'd need to contact the Dr?

My kids are 4 and under, but have never been as sick as this, and nor have I. I'd phone docs now, before they go home. If she hasn't held any fluids down in 17 hours, that's worrying to me.

I wouldn't be able to speak to a dr, it's only between 3-3.30 Hmm we don't have NHS direct either.

I don't want to leave her to get too dehydrated, I'll wait until 6 and phone the OOH Dr. The could even advise me.

if that's really the quickest way to speak to a doctor, then do that.

how is dd now? what did doc say?

kid · 04/05/2012 22:25

The longest I'd leave it would be 24 hours, but as its the weekend and the Drs won't be available when its been going on for 24 hours (midnight) then I'd use ooh Dr or hospital. Hope you managed to speak to the dr for advice.

Ds2 (2) was sick for 5 days last week. After 72 hours i took him to the dr as he still couldnt keep down water.
Doctor said that he coud admit to hospital but it would just be observation. I said i would rather keep him home.
Eventually it stopped and he was abe to keep down water and then food.
I was told to just keep offering water as even if sick he would still get some hydration from it.

I hope your dd is better

My nephew was in hospital for dehydration and was given a tsp of water every 20 mins as it was all he could manage but it was enough to keep him off the drip.

Thanks for your replies Smile

She peed at 5.30 last night and it was a good flow so i held off phoning the dr. She stopped being sick at 6.30.

She has a very sore stomach, i'm sure she's pulled every muscle in it!

She's sitting up sipping Lucozade now.
