Dd1 (8) complains of feeling poorly in the mornings (after breakfast) and in the evenings (after dinner), she says she feels sick (or Yuk) and has a slight head ache and sometimes tummy ache. I keep sending her to school as she seems to pick up by the time we get into the playground.

Today she said she feels even worse but again by 9am (after calpol) she seems fine. She's eating ok (still feels hungry), looks a little bit pale but not really ill.

There has been a tummy bug doing the rounds but surely she would have been sick or glued to the loo by now?

What could it be?

Should i take her to the GP? not sure if theres anything they could do?

Food intolerance?

Marne · 03/05/2012 20:18

It could be, we had a few problems last year with gluten, she was due to have blood tests but we re-introduced gluten (2 weeks before the test) and she sudenly tolarated it agian. Can these things come and go?

Is it poorly just before school and then again just before bedtime?

Avoidance tactics?

Marne · 03/05/2012 20:24

Thats also possable Sposh, it seems to be straight after breakfast and then at about 5pm (after she has eaten, sometimes she doesnt finish eating and then says 'she's unwell').

She has Aspergers syndrome and is a very emotional child, today she had a bad day at school, was told off for talking and come home very upset, she then said she felt poorly but soon picked up a bit but she seems better than she was this morning. She tells me that she's not worried about anything (last week she was worried about a few things but we sorted them out), she seems happy once at school.

How much wheat do her breakfast and dinner contain? Read up on gluten in the wheat - and take it off the menu if poss as a diet trial - you might be surprised.
Yes, this can come and go as it depends on the build up of the gut damage.

If she's poorly before school and before bed, I would suspect some sort of avoidance too.

Does it happen at the weekends too, or only on school days?

What about after lunch?

Marne · 06/05/2012 21:15

It still happens at the weekend.

She has toast or wheetabix fro breakfast, she's fussy at dinner time and often eats pizza (so more gluten), she says that somethimes she feels poorly after lunch (but not as bad), she has half a sandwich in her lunch box (the only thing in her lunch that contains gluten).

I have started giving her iron and calcium suplements to see if that helps as she's very pale and doesn't eat much iron (wont toutch meat or veg).

My 8 year old daughter is similar, this happens in phases and I have put it down to a growth spurt, or hormone rush or something, as it seems to happen just before she grows dramatically.

my daughter is very sensitive in terms of things like her clothing feeling odd, duvet hurts her, cries a lot over change etc ( we have been to CAHMS, but in this area they tend to duagnose all children and I dont fancy a label unless its of help to my daughter), so Ive kind of thought these episodes of not feeling well are like a super sensitivity.

Hope your daughter feels better soon

xx

I think thats probably what it is Sub, she is very sensitive Sad, she said she she felt dizzy tonight and had tummy ache and head ache but seemed fine.
