Bad reaction to MMR, does anyone know how long it'll last?

DD had her MMR 6 weeks ago. She is normally very robust & healthy (thankfully), despite having an older brother who goes to school and must bring back loads of germs. She is 15 months.

Since she had it she has been constantly poorly. She got a mild form of measles as a result. Her eczema, which cleared up at around 6 months, came back and is worse it has ever been. She has a cough and cold and for the past week has had a temperature on and off (not every day). She has been off her food (not all the time but enough to tell me she's not well), and she has gone back to being super-clingy and teary. Again not all the time - she's very up and down.

DS had no reaction at all to his MMR so I'm a bit surprised at how poorly DD has been. And there seems to be no end in sight! Obv her immune system has been knackered by it. Has anyone experienced anything similar? How long before she goes back to normal? I haven't had her checked by my (very crap) GP - should I? She's not so ill I'm worried; it's just going on and on.

No advice as my wee one is a few months away from getting it. Didn't want to read and run. Hope she feels better soon and that someone will be along soon.

Thanks! I don't think it's a bad thing to have (don't want you to worry - I don't know anyone else's LOs who have had this reaction) - am just a bit perplexed as to why it has had such an effect on DD. And my GP is utterly shite so want some MN advice if there is any before I go and see her... (she misdiagnoses pretty much everything - told me DS's chickenpox was impetigo and my chest inflammation was a heart attack!!)

Don't know if I will be much help but DS and his friend both had illnesses for about three weeks straight after the MMR. They were both sort of "off" as well. My DS then got hospitalised straight away with croup and actually by the time he stopped getting any virus within 100 miles, probably about two months had passed.

Since then he seems pretty normal though and has weathered various other illnesses in a more normal way. I don't know about your DD but I definitely found it knocked DS for ages but he has since recovered entirely.

Thanks Ruby, that sounds positive. I can hear her coughing and moaning a bit now, poor thing - just want her to be well again!

birds- my dd had it at a very similar age and was really, really poorly and wiped out. It took about 5 days at least from memory for her to react and I had gone away for the weekend (before she became unwell) and left her with DH, who is by no means a flapper. He ended up ringing NHS Direct because he couldn't get her temperature down consistently with nurofen and paracetomal and was concerned about how lethargic she was. It took about 4 days for her to improve. It's not uncommon but if you are concerned then try the GP. Hope she is better soon.

DS had his when a bit older than your DD - he was 21 months. One of the big reasons for delaying was that he had a horrible cold that turned into a chest infection, which took around 8 weeks to recover from.

When he had the jab, he was ok, but then reacted around 10 days later with a mumps type illness. Took another two weeks to recover from that, only to get another cold straight off, which again turned into a chest infection, which meant more ABs. This time I went to the GP almost straight away, but it still took a good three/four weeks to be completely himself again iyswim. He basically was unwell from the August bank holiday til New Year, with the MMR coming in the middle.

During the same period I had broken my arm and as it was during the snow etc. around Christmas, we ended up staying indoors for nearly two months, with only quick trips out to the local shops etc. so the isolation from other children etc. probably helped build his resistance and strength back up. Obviously given DD has an older sibling it is not that easy to avoid other children, but I would suggest maybe giving toddler groups a miss for a couple of weeks to see if you can break the illness cycle.

Prior to that stint of illness, DS had only been ill twice, one cold and one vomiting bug with a high temp. Since being at pre-school we have had any number of colds though.
