eczema and nanny goat milk for 5 month old

My baby boy (nearly 5 month) keeps getting eczema and all we keep getting is emollients, emulsifiers and steroid cream and no real answers. He hardly sleeps (neither do i) and is always scratching. Its awfull. He is combination fed (breast and SMA Gold) and the first outbreak was before the bottle was introduced at 5 weeks when i was solely breast feeding. Alot of people have mentioned it may be the dairy in his/my diet and to try cutting it from my diet and his. I am guarded about using a soya substitute as with him being male have heard stories about the oestrogen. I am wondering whether to exclude dairy from my diet and give to him Nannycare goat formula. What do people think/any experience? Also, i am a bit warey of cutting dairy from him per se as we are vegetarian so it would severly limit his options unless i started giving him meat and fish (which i dont really want to).

Hi, I dont think you can get nanny goat milk on prescription any more, its been removed from prescription licence due to not passing the hygeine standards. (supermarkets should not be selling it )

you can get allergy formulas which are made from cows milk but are partially or totally changed protein chain content.

i agree with the soya formula best to avoid.

ezcema , poor sleep pattern and poor weight gain in breastfed infants before 3 months are signs of food allergy.
its possible that ezcema could be related to environmental allergies, and one of the most common is dustmite. so it might be worth buying some dustmite covers for your baby. or taking steps to reduce dust mite levels in home and around baby.

How about cutting out the formula entirely and just breast feeding? You could also cut out dairy to help see if this helps too. It would ony be for a month then you start to wean and you could start with foods unlikely to cause allergy. In addition, you could try cutting out detergents in his washing and use ecoballs. I agree that dust mites can cause eczema so damp dusting could help and a hepa filter Hoover.

I have eczema and am allergic to dairy amongst other things. my parents gave me goats milk. It's vile. Really vile. I would not drink it.

Balneum, a soya oil bath oil is soothing as is a handful of pinhead oatmeal in the foot of a pair of tights and put in the bath. The goop that comes off is very soothing for eczema.

Oh and there are a few vegan parents on this site who raise their toddlers as vegans and are not limited in what they give their DC's, so perhaps you could hook into one of the vegan threads for some help?

I hadn't heard about the nanny goat formula being withdrawn. My ds used it from about 5 months until about 18 then moved on to the UHT goats milk which he is still on.

Had to do this as he had eczema and rashes along with severe gastro troubles everything he had something cows milk based.

Forgot to say I used to pick up the goats milk formula in waitrose and I am sure they still have it.

i have bought some from Amazon and am waiting for it to arrive. I dont solely bf because he used to seem hungry all the time but it was a vicious circle so i never got any time/spare milk to express (to increase my milk) but the first outburst was at 5 weeks before he had a bottle at all so if dairy related must be dairy in my diet too. Am gonna try going gluten free as well.
