Would prednisolone help Ds's eczema?

9 mth old DTS was wheezy last week and ended up on pred.

He has nasty eczema on his face which we are treating with Eumovate but it hadn't been brilliant until the last few days. At the moment, he looks peachy skinned and gorgeous, it's great.

Is this a welcome side effect of the pred or is the eumovate finally starting to work?

Is it a steroid? It would probably help. I had steroids for a rash, so they do work on skin.

(You can get something for the face which is not a steroid but stronger than eumovate and therefore you can use safely on the face, but needs to be prescribed by a consultant. I forget the name as my ds doesn't need it anymore).

It is a side effect from the pred but it is not something that you should pin your hopes on getting prescribed for eczema specifically, unless very severe and under a consultant dermatologist. The other side effects are marked and serious (with medium and long term use). The benefits in managing a respiratory condition outweigh the risks but for eczema less so. Steroid creams are better in some ways as only have a local effect, but still thin the skin and aren't recommended for long term use. Sorry if not especially helpful.

Oh no, I wasn't suggesting that we use it regularly for the eczema. I agree, something topical is far better, but I wasn't sure it it would have an effect or not. It seems it does Smile One of the very few advantages of being wheezy as well as itchy Confused

He is under a dermatologist for his eczema who we see again in a few weeks. I'll see what else she can recommend if the eumovate still doesn't seem to be working.

Thanks all Smile

Just a thought too. Apparently drinking aloe vera can be miraculous for skin. There's a few companies out there who sell it. My friend is completely converted. There's also something called Propolis cream. She uses both. My ds is now 6 and hardly suffers (if moisturised twice a day) so I haven't tried it myself, but she says it's brilliant.
