He has had a viral thing for almost two weeks, and although he is on the mend, he is still up half the night coughing, and lost his voice completely at the weekend. His temp is still spiking, especially at night.

My main problem is that he has stopped eating and It's gone on over a week now. He will have a couple of mouthful of whatever we give him, but no more than that. Since Sunday lunchtime, he has eaten half a bowl of cereal, an apple and two slices of toast,

He is pale, lethargic and very grumpy. Doc said last Thursday it was viral and that he would eat when hungry. Someone remarked this morning that they thought he had lost weight which concerned me a bit. I've weighed him once we got home and I think he has lost a couple of kilos. Should I be concerned and get him back to the docs, or just persevere trying to tempt him?

And with what? Everything we suggest is met with a sniff...

When mine had something similar we gave iced lollies, might he go for those? We also gave those fruit pots that they sell in the baby aisle, puréed apple and mango that sort of thing. They are both great for getting fluids in them too, which is probably more of a worry than the food unless he is drinking well.

Otherwise, pull out the big guns and offer ice cream and cake and see if he goes for those!

Ice cream. Jelly. Yogurt. Milkshake?

leave little bowls of things he likes around, so he can take when he wants to?

Today he has refused malt loaf, which he usually loves, and ate half a finger of twix before saying he was full.

He has eaten two pasta twists and us now saying he is tired, which has become his stock excuse for not eating. I can't do this fight three times a day. He was fussy enough before this, it's now a nightmare :(

Sorry, meant to say we've tried pots of fruit, raisins, nuts etc, which he ignores. He says yogurt are yucky and refuses anything cake like.

I have given him some cheese and crackers and he is refusing to eat the cheese. He loves cheese.

My ds, aged 3 has just got over a similar bug. He did 6 days without a solid meal. He would drink milk though, does your ds? If so I don't think you need to worry too much but here's some ideas of what Ds managed: a couple of mouthfuls of weetabix with warm milk, a brioche, a few innocent kids smoothies and a pot of ambrosia custard. All worries about sugar went for this short time - we offered all his favourite treats and he nibbled a little bit of rocky road and a few bites of millionaire shortbread. On day 7 he managed a boiled egg and soldiers for breakfast, i cried as I was so happy. Hope this passes soon for you.
