Hi
This is our first experience with head lice so I'm hoping someone with more experience can advise me (tell me to calm down)
I found a few headlice in DS2s hair and loads of nits. We treated him with some special shampoo from the chemist on saturday and i havent seen anymore head lice but the nits stayed stuck to the hairs around his hair line and ears. The nit comb didnt pull them out, they just slipped through the teeth. I've been trying to pull them out with my fingers, but it's very difficult!
Is it important to get all the nits out or are they dead now after treatment? I'm worried that they will hatch into more lice?

which nit comb have you got?

nitty gritty comb is best (boots stock them, they are about a tenner)

combing programme, you must follow to the letter

good luck

I'd ditto the advice on investing in a Nitty Gritty comb :) - & also give his hair a final rinse in vinegar, with added drops of Rosemary aromatherapy oil

The vinegar helps break down the glue that sticks the nits to the hairs shafts, so makes it easier still to clear them & the rosemary acts as a repellant - I once experimented with a couple of the nasty little F'ers & Rosemary oil was the only thing that actually killed it - the electronic comb we have, thats meant to electrocute them, barely stunned themShock - it is good for knowing they are there in long hair though :)

touches wood & crosses fingers We don't have any problems with them anymore, despite DD having waist length hair - I always rinse in the above & also use Vosene Shampoo & Vosene detangling headlice repellant spray, to which I add Rosemary oil - we use this in between shampoos to freshen up the protection & its good for messy stick up bed heads too - Thankfully it seems to work for us & has for others I've recommended it to :)

always been lucky with the nits in my lot, it became an obsession after seeing friends 3 dc hair actually moving due to the amount of lice (making me itch as i type) all i have ever used is conditioner and nit comb i also spray their hair every day with leave in conditioner, and to date never seen any lice or nits not sure if im just lucky or what i do actually works

Nitty gritty is def initely the best. I'd lost mine so was using the plastic ones but have been struggling to get rid of them, I resorted to using a treatment last week just to knock it on the head for a few days. Now I have found the nitty gritty & found loads of tiny ones on dd - obviously hatched from eggs since the treatment.

Nitty gritty all the way. I caught them a couple of years ago off my nephew. I got rid of them in a day with the comb. I used it a few times and did not have loads but great way to get rid without chemicals.
