Anyone experienced a child (11) vomiting intermittently for 2 weeks?

My 11 yr old has been vomiting on and off for two weeks. He has no temperature and has a normal appetite but it's hit and miss if he keeps his meals down. The vomiting doesn't really distress him but he is getting fed up with it. He is happy at school and home and not worried about SATS. I kept him off school for a week but now send him in even though he has been sick at school (I think the teachers are turning a blind eye to it just to keep him at school). We have been to the doctor and he is taking a tablet 15 minutes before eating which is supposed to help - but it isn't working. He gave a urine sample on Friday and a blood sample today (nearly fainted bless him!) I'm just at a loss to guess what might be causing it - I wondered if it could have started with a bug and for some reason his stomach just hasn't settled itself. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

DD (11) has just been discharged from hospital with something slightly similar. She had vomiting on and off for 5 days, didn't trouble her. However, she then had pain in stomach, so went to A&E in case of appendicitis. They kept her in, nil by mouth, drip etc. Scanned her to see what was going on. Turns out she has mesenteric adenitis (lymph nodes in abdomen going slightly haywire) - not too serious, but can cause symptoms you're describing.

Does he have any abdominal pain?

That's interesting... No he has no abdominal pain. I've just been reading on the Internet about regurgitation syndrome - trouble is I'm just worrying myself now. I guess I need to wait for the results of the blood and urine tests and then I'm thinking of asking for areferral to a specialist.

I think there's something called cyclical vomiting syndrome (another suggestion to worry you with!) - don't know much about it but was worrying that DD might have had it prior to her going into hospital.

My ds (age 11) has Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome and what you are describing sounds just like it. We have just been to see THE expert on the syndrome who happens to be at a hospital near us here in Los Angeles. He gave some great suggestions for treatment with no side effects. Please feel free to contact me through Mumsnet if you would like more information.

Hiya I know it was a while ago but did you find out what was wrong? As my 3 year old daughter has been the same

Hi everyone!
my 20 month old has now been vomiting for a week. After 2 GP appointments we were sent to A&E, blood tests came back fine and she wasn’t dehydrated therefore we were sent home.. Dr just said LO could vomit for another week.. has anyone had their LO vomit for 2 weeks straight and just be suddenly fine? She complains a lot about tummy aches too, Dr said to give Calpol, that’s all.. feeling stressed..

My son had exactly the same for about 3 months on and off no pattern. Just stomach pains and vomiting. GP diagnosed ulcer and put him on losec once a day that was about a month ago and so far so good no issues. We do have to do s stool sample also but haven't gotten around to it yet. GP said its common in kids at 11/12 years old especially boys. Also at that age he said stress over new school / puberty can cause it. Hope all your little ones are well
