chicken pox etiquette?

My DD has the pox, started 3 days ago. She's completely fine (apart from being spotty).

I'd really like to take her out as she's going nuts inside all day, what's the etiquette around this? I was thinking of going for a walk and popping into a cafe for a cuppa - is this a no no?? I'm thinking more of her spreading it around to unsuspecting people.

you shouldnt go to places where people could be until all the spots have scabbed over which is normally 5-7 days after the spots start to appear, so I would avoid the cafe. She is still contagious at this stage and chicken pox is dangerous for pregnant women and people with lowered immune systems.

Walk is fine, anywhere indoors including shops, cafes, libraries, is a total no no until all spots are scabbed over.

Is a pain I know, mine had it with a two week gap, so basically I had four weeks of it though the summer holidays where we could only go to parks and friends houses where the kids had had it, I nearly had a nervous breakdownGrin

I wouldn't- she's still infectious. If you really need to get out, take her for a walk outside in open space away from other people (i.e not a playground!).

My two had chicken pox back to back- we were basically housebound for a month!

If she still has unscabbed spots then she is still contagious.

Usually spots don't all scab until about 5 days after first spot, though that varies.

If she has unscabbed spots you cannot take her anywhere that might mean she could pass it on, including cafe - there might be immune suppressed people there, you cannot tell whether someone might be in danger of getting horrible complications to the pox, or is pregnant in early stages and has no immunity.

Is a pain in the neck. Not really the weather for garden playing or the park, but the park might be doable if completely empty (they will be here because is blowing a gale and pouriong). Otherwise, stay in.

I think it's fine to take her out, but stopping in a cafe is not so good. You could find yourself sitting close to a pregnant lady who hasn't had it, or someone else whose immune system is compromised. At least outside you're all moving around and contact time is limited. Hope she's recovered soon.

You can't really take her anywhere that would potentially expose others to it (the virus is airborne/touch transmitted). You can't preempt who may have a compromised immunity or prefer their kids not to catch it right now for whatever reason. For the sake of another 2 days at home it isn't worth it.
