Is this the pox?!

DD1 (3 yo) started nursery 2 weeks ago for 4 afternoons a week. On Thursday she got three acne like spots next to her mouth. Thought it was where she smears food everywhere when eating so ignored them as they weren't bothering her. Yesterday she was very cuddly and just sat watching quietly when we went out with some friends she'd been looking forward to seeing. Fell asleep on the way home and refused dinner as wanted to sleep. High temp and complained of pain across her chest when I was undressing her and checking for spots. Also thirsty and a restless night.
DP slept in with her but hasn't had chicken pox so will she get it too? And, if so, how long will it be? DD2(9 m) obviously at risk but still breastfeeding.
Any comments?

Personally I'd say that if no more spots have appeared since Thurs then it's not the pox. My DD aged 2.11 recently had it - couple of spots on a Weds - by Saturday she was covered. 2 weeks later my DS aged 4 mo has now got it - same pattern. Both myself and DH have had it. Am not breast feeding but I know someone who's DD same age as my DS has caught it from her DS same age as my DD (does that make sense?!) and she's breast feeding. What are the spots like? Ours have started like small raised blisters and then scab over a couple of days later. Hope that helps...? Smile

does she only have the spots at her mouth as you never said if she had them anywhere else? CP normally starts on the trunk (tummy/back). Check her hands and feet for spots as it could be hand, foot and mouth. The facial spots could also be something like impetigo

Could it be hand, foot and mouth?
Or impetigo?

With impetigo, the crust on the spots is yellow-y. They don't lo kid chicken ox scabs..

If you google images search "child spots next to mouth" you'll get hordes of grim pictures to compare/contrast.

No more spots this morning and the three by her mouth are clearing up. Temp lower and she's brighter and eating. Seems to have a bit of a cold though but that's a staple in this house these days! So must have just been a 24 hour thing! Good excuse to have a lazy day though just to be sure!
Thanks for the replies.
