DD2 has been on special formula for a cows' milk protein allergy since 2 months old and prior to this was diagnosed with silent reflux (she was on Ranatidine and Domperidone but I took her off it quite soon after her milk allergy diagnosis, as I believed the milk allergy was the culprit for the crying, not the reflux - and I was right) However, since I have started weaning her, she can only roll around on the floor for a short time before she gets upset and when I pick her up, she often burps and/or brings up small to medium amounts of watery vomit.

She also won't sit in the high chair for long since as soon as she's had a few mouthfuls of food, she starts crying and arching her back as though she's uncomfortable. The same goes for her pushchair.

I'm very careful with what I'm feeding her so I know it can't be the actual food itself, so I'm now of the thinking that she may have a problem with her stomach. She has always been a windy, sicky baby but I thought weaning was supposed to improve reflux/wind etc, not create worse problems.

We have an appointment with a paediatric gastroenterologist about her allergy but it's not until the end of June, and I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar. I really don't want to get her put back on reflux medication as I don't think it really worked anyway.

Any advice/experience gratefully received.

It sounds like acid reflux. Milk can make it worse but you can have reflux regardless.

Ds had this and had a lot of trouble when we started weaning. Acidic foods were triggers and any traces of milk in ready meals caused problems so I stopped using them. He basically couldn't have beef, dairy, soya, tomatoes, citrus fruits including pineapples, raspberries, strawberries....

I ended up putting him back onto ranitidine until 9 months, cut out all of the above food groups until he was 1 then reintroduced them slowly. By 18-20 months he outgrew them.

I'd slow down weaning and keep a food diary. I had to keep telling myself food for fun until they're one as it was very tough but now he's a thriving 2.6 year old who can eat yoghurt and cheese (not milk though).

I was also like you in that I didn't think the meds worked and that dairy was the problem but weaning soon made me realise otherwise.

FIL has acid reflux triggered by wheat which got me reading into it a bit more hence cutting out food groups. We were seeing a dietician also.

iggly thanks - that's really helpful. A lot of that rings true already . When I first tried her with kiwi, she had dreadful diarrhoea and it went straight through her - and that's pretty acidic too.

I've just put some gaviscon in her milk again today to see if that will make any difference and I think, based on what you said about your FIL, I might just go down the spelt/millet products for a while instead of the wheat for the time being.

Thanks again
