Does anyone have ideas of the types of toys that might keep a 5 year old boy entertained whilst recovering from a major operation?

Oh dear, poor chap! Will he be mobile, or have any limitations to movement?

like frontpaw said - any limitations?
my first thought is lego, drawing/puzzle books/cbeebies magazines if a reception aged 5 - although if major surgery might not be up to concentrating on that too much, nintedo DS, audio books, wheres wally?, making project like these, hama beads.... I'll be back if I have more ideas - what is ds into?

Just had a 2 week recovery with my 6 year old. Lots of DVD's, DS, Playstation, Lego and drawing.

It helped that he was prescribed diazepam for bladder spasms so he was the most chilled I've ever known Grin

Hope it goes well. I borrowed a buggy so we could get some fresh air.

Thank you very much, some great ideas here. I think he will generally be mobile, except for the neck area.

I bought new DVD's, DS game and a Lego set which he opened when he was back on the ward. Have you got a potable DVD player? Found it essential in hospital and a good distraction when the op was delayed by a couple of hours.

Have you got an iPad? There are lots of good apps (some are even educational!) for young children.

Playdoh, drawing, dinosaur making sets, Usborne sticker books?
