Dry cough and vomiting--any suggestions???

DD1 who is 3.5 has a tickly, dry cough that is making her vomit once she starts a coughing episode. I've been giving her benylin tickly cough which seems to help a bit. I'm going to try the humidifier tonight with the window cracked (getting too hot can start a coughing fit). I've been putting vaporrub and olbas oil on her pajamas...I'm running out of ideas and we are having to change the sheets twice a night. She doesn't have a temp but has a stuffed up nose. I know the gp will tell me nothing more than what I'm already doing (which isn't working!)....I'm desperate now, do you have any suggestions???

Hmmm whooping cough is apparently going around. She might also have a chest infection. I'd get her seen.

But she has absolutely no fever, and is fine during the day. She's coughing but its a dry cough and she's fine in herself.

Have you thought it could be asthma?

I have, as it runs in DHs side of the family but again, she's not struggling to breathe she's just coughing. Noticed today she's also got a runny nose and eyes so actually thinking its a cold. Cough sounding a bit more 'productive' now too. Just don't know how to help her Sad

Both my DC have this depressingly often, 2.9 and 1.5.

What helps is Karvol on chest and soles of feet, raised mattress at the head end, airing the room really well in the day and keeping it on the cool side, less milk (which seems to make cough/phlegm worse), tixylix.

Am sure you have tried all that though. It IS tedious isn't it?

Also two or three sets of sheets on bed/cot with plastic Inbetween to speed up the inevitable changes of bed linen.

a cough is very often indictive of asthma in kids, even with no wheeze. id get her checked out.

My dd 5 has had this. When she was two she was constantly ill, and sick nearly every night for about 6 months.

When we saw consultant, it was put down too her having reflux as a baby, and she still had a weak muscle. The best thing we found to help with a combination of GP and specialist was a biggish dose of phenergan about an hour before she went to bed. This made her fall asleep very fast, and bypassed the coughing (she often used to cough herself awake). It wasn't perfect, but it worked better than anything else.

We tried, raising bed head, karvol, humidifiers, absolutely everything, but they made no difference.
