Travel sickness at 15 mo?

This week we have been away and after about 2 hours in the car my 15 mo ds threw up everywhere. He was fine before and after, and I was wondering if it could be travel sickness, which my dh had white badly, and still does get if not driving. I say this because although we have done long car journeys before, (we drove to France when he was 5mo) the only other time he has ever properly vomited was also in the car. Any tips on how to deal with it if this is what it is?

It sounds like travel sickness, my DD has it, these are the steps we took: always travel on a full stomach; pop some newspaper under them which is supposed to be good for reducing vibration and also catching sick! Also bought the sickness bands they wear on their wrists - they make them for children and we find it has reduced incidences of vomiting though not expelled them! Lots of fresh air, don't let them get too hot and no playing with toys or drawing in the car. Last thing I did was to buy sick bags and have a plentiful supply in the car.....

Thanks! Good tips there.

Put his car seat in the centre of the car, that way he sees straight out the front instead of watching the motion from the sides.

One of mu charges is always sick in Mums car, has never been in mine.

In mine is in centre in Mums is behind passenger seat.

Mum driving on a 5 hour drive today and has moved the seat. (havnt heard how it went yet)

Thanks but he is in a rear facing seat. I hope this isn't contributing to the problem as it cost a bloody fortune!

would still put in the middle, as he can still see out the side from rear facing.

My ds1 had his first travel sick mass vomit at 15 months. We also find he is best if he can see out so put him in middle seat, not sure if this will help with rear facing though. He used to always sit in front so he could see but middle of back seems best.

We always hsve a supply of dry foods like crackers and breadsticks and he also says sipping water helps. Would definitely agree that driving on empty stomach makes him feel worse. Mine also seems to find hot sunny days make him feel bad (even with air con), the sun on his face is not good. Wearing a sun hat seems to make a bit of a difference.

Finally, we take a bucket, with carrier bag to 'line' it, on every journey. So at least if all else fails it is contained! May not work with a 15 month old but as he gets older it is handy.

We find two hours is about the maximum time he can manage without needing to be sick, so breaking up the journey helps too.
