Anyone's child had Cellulitis?

My ds (just turned 4) has today been diagnosed with Cellulitis. We thought he just had a virus as he had swollen glands in his neck/behind ears, a temperature and was generally feeling off colour. Yesterday he kept complaining his scalp hurt (going mental when I tried to put a t shirt over his head) and today I noticed swelling and a red rash creeping down his forehead. I rang 111 yesterday and they said they thought it was just a virus and advised be to take him to the walk in centre but said it wasn't urgent. He is generally well in himself, eating playing and so on but I took him to the walk in centre today and was told it was Cellulitis which was probably caused by a scab on his scalp that he keeps picking.

They've given me anti b's and told me to keep him dosed up on calpol/neurofen for his temperature.

Anyone else's child had this? I'm so glad I took him to the docs today.

Hello yes my DD had it aged 11. It was from a puppy scratch on her cheek that then got infected from an outdoor public paddling pool Hmm She was delirious and hallucinating with the fever resulting, we thought it was tonsils or mumps at first due to the side of her face swelling up.
GP sent her straight to children's ward and assessed as having cellulitis, they drew on her face in biro where the rash line was to check how far it was spreading.
In all she was kept in hospital for 6 nights on IV anti-biotics and had another month of oral horse pill sized ones after that.

I don't know much about it in children but I had it a few weeks ago caused by an insect bite on my arm and it wasn't pleasant.

Please keep an eye on the size of the area of inflammation and if it gets bigger take him straight to Dr or A&E as it might mean the antibiotics are not working. Is it possible to draw round the area with a biro then you can see if it is getting any larger?

It will really hurt him so keep up the painkillers and try to get him to rest as much as possible.

I hope he feels better soon.

My sons had it in his winky! Poor poor kid couldn't walk, it swelled up massively and the infection spread up his stomach. He was given massive doses of antibiotics and was riding a bike within the week. Gad we felt sorry for him though..

Gosh, common then!

I have given him the first spoonful of medicine which he gagged at and said was disgusting. He has a temp of 38.2 so I'm keeping a close eye on him.
